Y470 display pixelated

2011-12-12, 5:54 AM

I am having this weird problem with my Y470 display. It looks okay when I keep it still and look at any area of display without moving (although it is still little grainy - i can see pixel lines on a pure white page). But when I type somthing or laptop shakes a little bit, the graininess of the display comes more alive. I can also see graininess when I move my eyes from one area of display to another area. The graininess is more pronounced near the edges of any object.

Is this present in all Y470s or is it just me? I am fed up with this now. Please help me if you have any idea how to solve this issue.

My driver version for Intel card is 8.15.10.2462. For nvidia card, it is 8.17.12.6844.

Betreff: Y470 display pixelated

I know exactly what you mean. I just got my Y470 and noticed the same thing. My Y450 did not have this and I was actually thinking of swapping the displays.

It's almost as if you can see a faint line between every pixel, especially the vertical lines. Like a small vertical wire between each pixel. Especially visible when the screen is white.

Big defect in my opinion... you should not be able to see individual pixels (or these lines) from 1.5 - 2 feet away. I havent had this problem on any other laptop, and I have had quite a few.

Exactly. Vertical lines are more prominent. Is it the problem with all Y470 laptops? I am planning to return it hoping that the replacement that I will get will not have this irritating problem. It's hard to do any work with this kind of display.

My Y470 screen is not pixelated, but it did have a hot spot about the size of a dime in the lower right quadrant of the screen.  It bugged me that much that I finally purchased a replacement screen and successfully installed it myself.  My machine is only two months old, well within the warranty period.  And when I removed the problem screen, I noticed that something had struck the back of the screen during manufacture, so it was obviously a warrant-able issue.  Nonetheless, I was more than willing to void my Lenovo warranty on this machine by doing the repair myself because there is no way on this earth I will EVER put my machine in the hands of those incompetents at Lenovo IdeaPad service.  I will toss this $950 machine in the garbage before I ever send it into those people.  Needless to say, this is the last Lenovo I will ever purchase...ever.
