Y50-70 SSD Compatability

2020-10-13, 12:26 PM

I have a Y50-70 laptop (2014 model) with a 512 SSD. I wish to upgrade this SSD to a Samsung 860 EVO series 2.5 4TB SATA  SSD.  MZ-76E4TOE. Is this SSD compatible? Thank you.

Hi Floppydok7,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

4TB HDD capacity is not offered by OEM and checking with other known SSD resellers do not offer this much capacity so we cannot guarantee functionality.

This perhaps because of the pricing and folks not really placing too much data in just one location. Even if SSD are known to be more resilient than mechanical HDD, parts are expected to have wears and tears through time and usage.

As it is known to accommodate 2TB SATA SSD, in terms of specifications it should work as expected.

We do not have any confirmed case of 4TB but perhaps you can explore this one and have us updated.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Thank you for your reply. This help me. I plan to place my Lightroom catalog and previews ( I have > 100,000 photos in my collection), plus additional files on  the drive. This added capacity will allow for speedy retrieval of the previews.  If 2 TB is supported, I would imagine 4 TB  would be also. I know not guaranteed, but probable. I'll keep you pposted.
