Re: Y500 Ultrabay Options HDD

Yeah it will work, as long as it is a 9.5mm HDD Caddy it will work on your Lenovo y500. I just already replace my CD-ROM with a 9.5mm HDD caddy. Now I'm running SSD as my primary OS and extra HDD storage thanks to HDD Caddy

Nope it does not look odd and it fits perfectly! Beautiful at it is just like the old cd-rom that's on it before.

Re: Y500 Ultrabay Options HDD

2013-08-08, 8:30 AM

Hello,

I´m a newbie to the Lenovo community and I have searched the community already for this question, found some similar threads, but I couldn´t find a definitive answer. Please forgive me if I ask something which has been clearly answered already.

I´m waiting for my new Ideapad Y500 to arrive (Excited!!!!!!!!) and I already have a 256 GB Samsung 830 SSD at home. I want to replace the original 1 TB HDD with the 256 GB SSD, and move the 1 TB HDD to the Ultrabay. I have read that you can use the optical drive/Ultrabay to put in an extra graphics card, fan or HDD, instead of the optical drive. SO... does this mean that I can simply take out the optical drive, place the 1 TB HDD in the ultrabay of the optical drive and slide it back in, or do I have to buy a separate ultrabay/caddy to achieve this? What caddy would you recommend?

Your help is really appreciated!

Moderator Note; subject edited; post merged in. Was; What caddy do I need to replace the optical drive with an HDD in Ideapad Y500 Ultrabay?

hi obie1977,

You may want to check this thread as others users have successfully added an HDD caddy on his lenovo unit.
