Y510 Battery

2008-05-10, 13:37 PM
I recently purchased a shop display Y510 from a local store here.  When I got it home I discovered there was no battery with the unit.  I've done several Google searches and have not found any batteries that are designated to fit.  Anyone know how to get a replacement battery?

All,

In warranty defective batteries should be addressed through service - please contact support - refer to the call center numbers for your particular country.  Additional batteries (options / second battery / batteries outside of warranty) can  be purchased from Lenovo directly on the US website.  Please check sales sites in other countries, or point of purchase.

UPDATE 1 -  The Y-series AC adapter can be purchased as an option from Lenovo's main shopping site as P/N 41R4322.   The battery for the Y310 is P/N 43R1954 and the battery for the Y410 is P/N 43R1955.

UPDATE 2 - The  Y510 battery 45J7706  is being made available for sale on this site, now available on the web.  We should provide further updates to the description to reflect all models that it supports and get a picture uploaded.

I've inquired about the S10 and U110 models as well.  Will update again - once these parts are in place.

Thanks for everyone's patience.

Mark

As far as I know, they only could be replaced for now in case of malfunction.
No additional/more capacity batteries available.
I think in future they'll be available.
Can't tell when.

talley08, welcome to the forum,

have you spoken to the store about this? It seems very strange that there was no battery in the box, was the box sealed when you received it?

Yes I have spoken to the store.  The computer was a display unit which they took off the shelf and reboxed while I was in the store.  Before I left I asked if everything was in the box and the answer was  - yes.  Later, I realized it was missing a battery, called the store and they offered to repay me if I bought a battery for it.  Not sure at this point whether to keep it and wait for a battery to come available or just take it back.  I only gave $450 for it and its in great shape.

There's a new universal Lenovo slim charger that according to the site works with Thinkpads and Y510 (Y710 is out of coverage though)

perhaps you can find a retailer somewhere...

talley08,

Try calling service first and see if they can sell you a replacement battery as if your system were out of warranty, because eventually that will be the case and batteries must be available outside of warranty.   Have them send you an email quote, and I would sugget having the store confirm to you they will indeed re-imburse before you order it.

If that doesn't work out, please let me know - you can send me a PM with contact information, and I'll see what alternatives we have.

Thanks for sharing this situation.  It's really good to know about these kinds of things. :smileyhappy:

Mark,

I also am interested in a spare battery.  Especially so if Lenovo sees fit to offer an extended life battery.  But even a standard battery (if affordably priced) would be welcome - as I could keep it charged up and swap it out when necessary.

Will be hopefully watching for an announcement!   :smileyhappy:

All

Thanks for taking a look at my problem.  I took the unit back to the store to return it and wouldn't you know it...........a spare battery surfaced.  All is well now but I would be interested in information on the replacements - you never know when you might need one.

talley08, glad it worked out for you :smileyhappy:

What a strange coincidence that a battery suddenly turned up! :smileywink:

Mark,

You know, it does seem highly suspect that now, 4 months after the release of the Y510, that an owner can't just buy a replacement or spare battery for my Y510.

I mean, lenovo makes money selling spare batteries, right? Doesn't Lenovo want more of my money?
