Just to tell you that you are not alone to wait for this bug to be solved. I'm in France and I've got exactly the same problem.

Experiencing this same issue here. This is critical for me as it really hurts my eyes that level of brightness.

Mark: Any updates on this issue? Thanks.

Seems that no news here for now...

Here's a little help - try atjusting brightness level in your videocard drivers. It's a long way and it's not easy or convinient, but at least you can get what you need to work.

Actually you can configure up to four brightness presets using the EnergyCut:

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
(you can find EnergyCut icon in the system tray)

Double click each power scheme and select appropriate brightness in range 0-10. Then you'll be able to switch between the presets using the Novo key. Unfortunately, other energy settings (such as CPU speed) will be locked to these presets too. For most tasks, however, 4 presets are pretty enough. Here are mine, for example:

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

This partially resolves the problem, but still looking forward to preset-independent brightness control, as in Vista.

Mark,
What's the current status of this issue with the engineering team? Let us know.

Regards,
Mikhail

Mark,

I know, as you said, "In terms of development, this is a lower severity issue in that it doesn't otherwise impair the normal operation of the system, and XP remains a best effort support environment."

That said, this issue probably has more people complaining than any other single issue. That alone should merit someone looking at it and resolving it.

Up to this point, you haven't even stated if Lenovo QA has even reproduced the problem.

In other words, I think a status update is in order.

Thanks,
Warr

Hi

I have the same reported problem and I have STOPPED using my Y510's screen because it is so difficult to see. I've plugged in an external monitor and am using that instead. It would be really nice if Lenovo could escalate this as a high priority bug because at this stage I'm thinking of taking mine back to the shop to replace with something that I can actually use.

Please put my eyes ot of misery!!!
Thanks,
Debbie

Wernst,

I agree with you in regard to the number of folks noting / discussing this issue.  I believe the recent priority had been on the bios updates and ability to update on your system locally.   With that behind us, I expect the engineers will be able to focus on some of these customer interest points like the brightness.

I'm starting to wonder...
