Re: Y510P-Lenovo Cheating Customers by Using a Cheaper CPU Than Advertised.

Are you guys actually sure? Do you have a invoice paper or a pdf with ordering details? If it shows 4702 in there or 4700 that's what you should get.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/720343-ideapad-y510p-62.html

Here I found someone with the same issue.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4702MQ-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4700MQ

Honestly. I would not mind the 4702. It may be a tad slower, but is more power efficient than the 4700

Looks like Lenovo is going to take a bad hit for this. Someone made a serious typo somewhere. And that escallated quickly...

It was not a typo, they do have 4700 but it ran out, so they decided to put a 4702 in new orders, basically whatever they can find in their factory.

U will get a 4702. gg :) Nah, they wont take a bad hit, they will just change the spec on their site silently and cover it up  like it never happened. O wait a sec, Ok, they did send out an email, wot they did with this matter is they sent out emails to existing customers  trying to convince buyers that 4702mq is much better then 4700 by giving "5 points"  LOLOLOL,  Wot a joke, trying to tell me that I could save more battery on a gaming laptop, that's BETTER then having a better performance cpu? U a joker aren't u.... I think you should just put a Atom Z500  intel atom  in, that way it could save even more power, 800Mhz, for 0.65W only!!!

Ok, so now u give us a longer no question return policy from 30 days to 60 for us to, repack the laptop, ship it to another victim,  Nice job!

Zero cashback, just a trash mass email sent, I ain't mad, i m just laughing at those trolls.

the real question here and also the one you have to keep in mind and wonder is: do they replaced the 4700MQ with the 4702MQ because they had heating issues with the 4700MQ? Because if this was the reason then you probably be happy that they've done it..i had a lenovo Y500 and had bad problems with the CPU (3630QM) overheating, and mostly because a bad cooling solution..them temps were reaching sky up high under load and they jump from 55 celsius to 90-95 celsius in some seconds if the cpu was used more than 50% in CPU heavy loads applications and that was a 45W CPU. When i was trying to make a test with prime 95 the temps also reached even 97-100 degrees in less that 10 seconds and the CPU always suffers from throttling because at the point it reaches 90 degrees the frequency is reduced to 2.4Ghz and then stays there..so no more turbo boost.
Was sent in service 3 times by now and they finally decided that they can't do anything and now will replace it with one that appear to be the Y510P with the 4700MQ processor and i have big concerns about the CPU overheating again this one being a 47W one and i bet that the cooling system haven't changed a bit, contrarly from what i've read it goteven worst because now the GPU's seems to reach 80-90 degrees and the one i had with GT 650M SLI the videocards never passed the 65-70 degrees..you all better keep this in mind than complaning about processor..yeah i know that was a false advertise and all that and now maybe they are ashemed to tell the real reson for what they've changed the 4700MQ with the 4702MQ, that being the overheating problems and are afraid that now, under the new circumstances, the ones that have it with the 4700MQ will also want to return it and will create chaos..

I have the 4700 and it runs cool like a fridge. I had an Hp dv9 before that used to cook my lap. The Y510p has huge heat sink but I never even hear the fan kick in.

you have that 4700MQ into an Y510P SLI? Also have you made any tests with "prime 95" or "intel burn test" and keep open a heat monitoring tool? i'll be thrilled to know for sure that what you said is true ;)

I had this conversation with my friends about this issue.

I still wonder why all you guys are crying over this requesting a new CPU...

All my friends and me concluded that we would not say anything about it and just start using the laptop. I would only cry about it if I need specific processor features like VT-D.

Just enjoy it. That few extra mhz won't give you extra performance. Rather extra heat. Have peace :) !

well jonas_hendrickx, i guess most of them are "crying" more about the ethics of the company than really about the performances since the performances are kind of close between the 2 CPU's, of course that are some that also don't know what they are talking about and think themselfs that the 4702MQ is much weaker based of what they've heard, instead of looking on internet and compare the scores of those 2..i would surely go for the one that generates less heat and be just a little "slower" ..my big concerns are always the temps!

If you order a pizza with pepperoni and instead get one with ham, what would that make you feel?

Good point! But when you order that pizza... Do you eat it right out of the oven, or do you wait the extra minute or two to be served, so you don't burn every inch of the inside of your mouth.

I understand why people were crying about it. I did look into it, and the performance issue is minimal at best. Did they handle the swap correctly... Probably not. But honestly... It's 200mhz, and it runs cooler...

You guys want something to cry about... Cry about their chat service. All those guys care about is getting their commission. They don't give a crap about my questions...

Exactly my point, wouldn't eat it, but what I would do is return it and never buy from that pizza place again.

Then again, that's me. And yes, that's what I'm doing with the one I ordered.
