Y510P - Switch HDD for a SSD

2013-08-01, 8:20 AM

Hi!

I'm planning to buy the base model of this laptop, but I wanted to add an SSD. I was thinking in replacing the HDD that comes in the notebook, for a SATA III SSD. It's this doable? I couldn't find what kind of HDD this laptop has. It would also be great if I could add the HDD I extracted in the ultrabay, and use it as another disk. This can be done?

Thanks!

hi guiguille,

Welcome to the Forums.

You're issue might be similar to this thread.

The Lenovo Y510p still uses a standard 2.5" SATA HDD as its primary drive so upgrading to 2.5" SSD is doable. In using the stock HDD into the ultrabay, you will need to get an HDD caddy. The product below looks promosing in accomplishing this:

I have just purchased the Y510P hdd caddy from hddcaddy.com, I will update you all once I have recieved and installed it. It ships out of the netherlands so it will be a while. I emailed them and they told me that it will fit on the 2013 Y510P, time to find out.

**Cough Cough, since Lenovo won't release the Ultrabay accessories anytime soon I will make sure to let you all know how it goes.
