Y510P power charger/adapter replacement -- is a 19V acceptable to replace a 20V cord?

2019-04-16, 17:51 PM

So my Y510P's power adapter cord has finally deteriorated to the point that I need to replace it. Right now I'm looking at 170W replacements (since my laptop is SLI), and I noticed that though PWR+ on Amazon lists this model as compatible with their adapter, the max output is listed as 19V. But my original is 20V.

Is this an acceptable compromise? Do I need to pony up more for an official replacement? $50+ is already pushing it for me at the moment, and I need a working cord soon. Is replacing a 170W 20V with a 170W 19V going to be a problem?

for reference, the listings:

Hi Alekey! Welcome to our forums community. We still recommend the part recommended for this particular device. We were able to find one for you: https://lenovo.encompass.com/item/10628280/Lenovo/36200404/?Source=social_eservices&Medium=LITHIUM&Term=eServices_&Content=20190605_20190605210709&linkId=68615334.

You can check the other part numbers for the adapter here: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_y410p_y510p_hmm.pdf?Source=social_eservices&Medium=LITHIUM&Term=eServices_&Content=20190605_20190605210710&linkId=68615335. page 102.

So you'd recommend a Y410p 90W adapter instead of a Y510p 170W for my Y510P?

Similar issue, looking for a replacement of mine without SLI - looking for the 120 W one.

I'd strongly reccoment posting to Tom's Hardware or Reddit Tech Support/Lenovo there as there's not much help on official channels by Lenovo. To check compatibility etc, you'd get a better response elsewhere.
