Y530 - supported CPUs

2009-09-04, 17:31 PM

Hi!

I have recently become a happy owner of an IdeaPad Y530 Lenovo laptop. Though I am satisfied with the performance at the moment, I have a feeling that in a near future, as my univ. computer science education progresses and programming abilities reach higher lvls , I might want to upgrade my CPU. And here is my question - which CPUs can my laptop support? Currently it has the C2D T6500 and I would be looking for something along the lines of a P8xxx. Will my chipset (PM45) and laptop as a whole be able to support it? Is it even possible to replace a CPU with relative ease, like in a normal Desktop PC, or certain other laptops? Thanks in advance for replies, and if more info is needed to answer my questions, I'd be more than happy to provide it :)

as far as i know, the P8700 CPU works in PM45 chipset system. But the P8700 is not that much more powerful to justify the huge costs of these CPU.

I swap my P7350 with P9500 and no problems at all. Works like a charm ;)

Ideapad Y530; P9500 @ 2.53 GHz; 250 GB 7200 rpm HDD; 4 GB OCZ RAM, nVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS
