Y550P with PM55 Chipset and iTunes 9

2010-01-07, 8:46 AM

Just like all the HP and Dell users the Lenovo Y550P customers are now running into problems with Windows 7 x64, iTunes, and PM55 Chipset in regards with syncing. All other companies have released BIOS updates and would like Lenovo to also publish a BIOS update or if they already have for someone to post a link to it. If you have any other information please share.

Thank you.

Hi All,

dezRy is right! I was told that this bios may fix the issue, and i wasn't aware that it is already uploaded to the web. My apologies to you all. Now, I'm so glad that it seems to have solved the issue as many positive feedbacks have been posted about this new bios version 33.:)

History of Fix:

1. When remaining battery capacity reach 10%, the beep alert will sound and it cannot be turned off except by muting the system sound.

2. Fix - Sony battery charge/discharge error

3. Fix - Synchronization issue between some USB devices and Y550p model

It should be something to do with the usb port as I notice HP bios release has mentioned about it as well.

Anyhow, i must say your comments are really valuable to the development team. Althought it's kind of late for the release, but i would like to thank them and you guys as well for making this far.

Thanks for your patience and we would like to hear more ideas from you. :)

Cheers,

Cleo

I have already tried the updates listed below and the issue persists. From the looks of it a BIOS udpate is needed. I have tried the latest iTunes with an iPhone and a 5th generation iPod both of which do not work correctly however if I use a USB powered hub the sync works okay (however I do not wish to lug around a USB powered hub with my laptop.) Please advise.

Do you get a random assortment of errors at different times when trying to sync? Like sometimes you get "file can't be found" and other times "unknown error"?

Exactly the type of errors I am getting. Other errors include "folder found instead of file" or "cannot read iphone data." The list goes on however it's all the known errors with this chipset.

Oh man, I get this stuff all the time. I thought it was just because my iPhone is jailbroken and has been synced to like 8 different computers. The way I fixed it was to disable syncing of everything. It would sometimes ask if I would like to restore from backup or setup new device. I would setup new device (restoring would remove my jailbreak). Then I went through and individually enabled and synced each thing (apps, music, movies, tv shows, and finally, pictures). I used Microsoft Exchange to sync Google calendars/contacts.  I would get all the way through without errors, and my iPhone would sync fine from then on. Sometimes it would come back, and I would just do it all over again.

No I have not contacted support because there is no reason to since no BIOS updates are listed on the website and I am sure they have nothing to offer however I will try to call them today just to see what they have to offer.

Update: I contacted them and just as I thought they were basically very useless and all she did was escalate the ticket and told me to keep checking the website for updates. Basically, unless a lot of users start calling in about this we will not see a BIOS update! So, please help out and start calling in if you have this issue!

I was having this problem as well. However, I fixed it by getting a new cable. I have no idea why this worked but I haven't got an error message since. I assumed it was a bad cable but maybe not.

Can anyone from the engineering department reply to this thread or at least forward this to them. This is a VERY annoying problem and I would really like a fix.

I have tried the following:

iTunes in Vista SP2 mode

Disabling Bonjour Service

Updating Intel Chipset drivers from intel.com

Using a different cable

Using a different iPod

All of which do not work!

Thank you!
