Hmmm...the problem is coming back again. =_=; (maybe last time is just a pure luck)

It got error -14 from itunes, also it said it require disk or something like that.....

Maybe it still need a proper BIOS fix.

Like I've been saying, it is an intermitent problem. It appears to occur randomly and sporadically.

Silly me.  After reading the posts that "we can't find anything wrong", I thought, well, maybe I should install itunes and give it a shot.  Perhaps all would be well.  Alas, it was not to be.

First, after installing itunes, the app refused to recognize the ipod (touch).  I next disabled the USB power management option for all of the usb ports.  The ipod was then recognized, but I immediately got an "unknown error" crash message.

Like Sisyphus, I kept rolling the boulder up the mountain.  After another try, itunes recognized the ipod and began an interminable sync (despite my disabling all the sync options in the programs).  Eventually (like after 20 minutes!) it claimed the "sync" was complete .  I tried playing some nice tunes off of the pod through the computer -- no dice.  I started over.

Again, an interminable "sync", eventually resulting in a time-out error.  I tried again.  Itunes froze and had to be closed through task manager.  I gave up.  Fortunately, I have a non-Lenovo desktop (on which itunes works fine, despite my loathing of the program itself - even when working), so I can survive without itunes on my laptop.  Nevertheless, I would like to see a fix, just to keep my psyche calm.

Can I just talk directly to the engineers? I feel like I'm an expert on this problem.

Most manufacture which had same problem fix it with BIOS updating, why don't you just contact Insyde as the maker of our laptop's BIOS?

Because this bug is basically caused on BIOS level rather than OS or Program.

it's a pity they cant fix this. my guess is this needs a BIOS update. I wonder how many prospective buyers have googled y550ps and found their way here... next time it would be a good idea to place stickers on your y550p boxes stating "not compatible with iPods, iPhones and, most likely, iPads." :(

Re: Y550P with PM55 Chipset and iTunes 9

I have had the same problem with my Ipod Touch (second generation) when trying to sync with Itunes.  Once the Ipod is connected via the USB cable (it doesn't matter which USB port I connected it to) I experience similar problems and get a variety of errors.  Since I bought the Y550P I have not been able to sync my Ipod; this has been very frustrating.   Itunes is launched and I connect the device via the USB cable.  it takes awhile for the computer to recognize the device.  Itunes then begins the process of syncing the Ipod for the first time.  This tends to hang for awhile after which  I get the following errors - unable to find folder, unable to write or read to disc, Error -49 and Error -6999.

I have an 8 GB ipod touch and it shows the capacity as only 4 GB.  I have taken the lap top to the Microsoft store and I have taken the Ipod Touch to the Apple store confirming that software and Ipod are working properly.  I can then restore my Ipod from an older laptop (different manufacturer) running VISTA with no problems.

Any help resolving this is greatly appreciated.

Interesting thought. I did see this thread when I was first considering a y550p, and it gave me pause.  I also saw that other manufacturers had fixed the issue, so I thought Lenovo would certainly do so as well.  I went ahead and bought the computer.  Alas, no fix three months later.  Fortunately, itunes is not a crucial app for my laptop, and I can use it on another computer without problem -- good thing, too, since the install on my y550p totally borked by ipod and I had to reset everything and reload all my songs, pics, etc.
