Re: Y550P with PM55 Chipset and iTunes 9

Hello all,

Just wanted to add more info to the thread in hopes it can be used to help troubleshoot the problem.  Below are the errors I’ve received on my laptop when trying to sync my iPod, iPhone, and now iPad.  There might be more info than necessary, but hopefully there’s something salvageable in there.  Each device is plugged into a USB port (with the power management turned off) and it does open as an external hard drive.  When iTunes acknowledges it, it looks like it’s syncing, but eventually I get:

--------------------

Error received when syncing iPod 27 Mar @ 1342L:
“The iPod “Ry’s iPod” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-6999).

Error received when syncing iPhone 28 Mar @ 1154:
“The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-6999).

After acknowledging the error above, this new error appears when syncing iPhone 28 Mar @ 1156:
“The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  A folder was specified instead of a file.

While trying to recover my applications/music/photos, another error appeared while syncing iPhone 28 Mar @1202:
“The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found.

When it tries to install applications, several apps cannot be loaded 28 Mar @ 1203:
The application “xxxx” was not installed on the iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” because of an unknown error occurred (-35).

After unplugging my iPhone and plugging it back in, the applications synced up.

After the applications synced up, a new error popped up 28 Mar @ 1241:
The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (13014).

Although playlist synced, still received this error 28 Mar @ 1308:
The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (13014).

Although playlist synced, still received this error 28 Mar @ 1322:
The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (13014).

Although playlist synced, still received this error 28 Mar @ 1327:
The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (13014).

Music no longer syncs, unplugged/plugged and now receive this error 28 Mar @ 1343:
The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-48).

After selecting “OK”, it comes up with the error:
The iPhone “Ry’s iPhone” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-6999).

Error received when syncing iPad 4 Mar @ 0746L:
“The iPad “Ryan’s iPad” cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-48).

When it tries to install applications, several apps cannot be loaded 4 Apr @ 0748L:
The application “xxxx” was not installed on the iPad “Ry’s iPad” because of an unknown error occurred (-35).

After acknowledging the error above, received:
The iPad “Ryan’s iPad” cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found.

--------------

Personally, I haven’t had one successful FULL sync among these items.  When it does crash, I’m not using any programs at the time.  However, I was able to get the apps to sync (after I disabled music, videos, photos, etc.)  But when I try another category (i.e. photos), it fails again.

Because I constantly use my laptop/iPhone for school and work, I resorted to using MobileMe just to have my calendar and contacts to sync and some buggy third-party software for my music transfers.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

-Ry

Omega,

After doing more research I somewhat disagree with the assertion that other OEMs have fixed this issue with a simple BIOS update and that Lenovo is the only one that has not.  For example, there seems to be discussion in HP's forum on this that has been mixed, with one customer first reporting the BIOS fixed it, and then others saying it did not.

All,

I appreciate the frustration - we've not recreated it, and as our engineers have also availed themselves of the internet, they've pointed out that there seem to be broader issues going on getting ipods and iphones properly recognized and synced up under Win 7 64 bit on the Microsoft forum and on Apple's.   Not all of these match your symptoms as you have described them, but they seem to suggest there are issues getting the devices consistently recognized and that one factor may be files that were not fully installed.  See Kenchi123's post on the second page of the Apple board for his proceedure that claimed to resolve on a Win 7 64 bit install on a Dell.

I also note that Apple has released itunes 9.1 on March 30 - there is a release note related to 64bit.  Have you tried this release?  Any differences?

Ooter37

Please PM me your name and phone number. (please resend if you have before)   I will try to arrange a call out - appreciate your willingness to help.

Mark

I’ve tried iTunes 9.1 and still got the same results.  However, after following the Apple link (posted by Mark_Lenovo) and reading the thread, the possible fix it sounds promising, specifically kenchi123’s instructions in the link below.  I’ll give it a go as soon as I get an opportunity.

iTunes 9.1 doesn't help either. =_=

Tried dezRy's suggestion, it said my iPod's driver is up to date and still does not work.

Dez, Omega,

Our engineer would like you to confirm that you have the Windows driver version specifically noted on the Apple forum thread link I noted....

And to ..

1) confirm whether the driver it has installed is the same he extracted manually,

2) if it is not the same driver, force the installation of the extracted driver.

Thanks

Mark

Re: Y550P with PM55 Chipset and iTunes 9

I am using the driver from the latest iTunes, so I believe I am using different driver as he used.

But....

I checked my device properties to check my driver version is 6.1.7600.16385

And strangely enough, it said it is from  21-06-2006. (Which is exist before windows 7)

Also if you  look at driver name, it will say "MTP USB Device".

I search on Google "MTP USB Device" and "Windows 7" and.....viola.....I think I know the **bleep** behind this.

Every device who have device with "MTB USB Device" driver also have similar problem with iPod (from nokia to Zen which worse for iPod because iTunes doesn't work with MTP USB Device).

My machine said that my driver is up to date maybe refer to "MTP USB Device" (which is coming from Microsoft not Apple).

So my question to Mark_Lenovo and Lenovo Engineer, how to force un-install  "MTP USB Device" driver?

Because the method in Apple"s support (maybe) work if we uninstall "MTP USB Device" driver at first place as unknown device.
