Y560 multiple problems including BSOD, freezes, display driver failing

2011-01-10, 19:50 PM

1) The laptop randomly gets the blue screen of death

2) Very often I get the "Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered", after which all videos stop working.

3) Sometimes the laptop "freezes", so I have to manually shut it down by holding the power button.

4) The screen is randomly dimming, sometimes every 5-10 seconds, even though I have it set to dim every 10 minutes.

5) The keyboard layout is pretty horrible. The "Fn" button is in the bottom-left corner, where "Ctrl" button should be.

6) The battery life is around 2 hours, while similar laptops from Apple get 9 hours.

1) The laptop randomly gets the blue screen of death

- if it involves one of ATi services or dll's - Video Driver Problem

2) Very often I get the "Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered", after which all videos stop working.

- Obviously,  Video Driver Problem

3) Sometimes the laptop "freezes", so I have to manually shut it down by holding the power button.

- Video Driver Problem

5) The keyboard layout is pretty horrible. The "Fn" button is in the bottom-left corner, where "Ctrl" button should be.

- Cant fix it. Unless you use unofficial BIOS which will void your warranty.

6) The battery life is around 2 hours, while similar laptops from Apple get 9 hours.

- Nothing can be done here, unless you have switchable graphics and/or Energy Management set to "Power Saver".
