Y570 What can I safely remove from start up?

2012-08-11, 5:10 AM

My Y670 has been slowing down. I restored the HD to factory and it still just gets slow. Honestly it just seems not better than when I previously had a crappy Walmart XP back in like the early 2000s. I got a Mac when that killed over which was fairly fast. Spilled drink on my MBP and got this.

I will admit this was fairly fast at first.. but now it has slowed down. I can't even play Minecraft on this thing anymore without stutters and jerking. Audio lags ALL THE TIME. Video streams constalty stop although that may be due to networking.. who knows. I have no idea if this is Chrome that is slowing things down, if it is something else or what. I tried Firefox with similar issues.

I often experience this entire computer locking up when all I have is iTunes, Chrome, Windows Live Mail and dropbox open. What from the registry can I safely remove? A lot of crap is on here by defeault so that is what I mean.

I do have enough space and I run programs like CCleaner, Spybot and other apps. I've cleaned the disk and defragged. Nothing seems to work and this is all after an restore. Perhaps my eexpectations are too high for this laptop but I was expecting a fluid experience and it seems like in terms of speed I'm right back in the 2000s. There is a delay for everything.

Also this trackpad completely sucks.

Hi,

you know what i would do,if i had all these problems

first see if McAfee is installed and running

That could account for the lagging and Lord knows what else besides.

Uninstall it,clean hdd reboot.

İf you see an improvement that you're happy with, good.

İf not i can suggest something more drastic and overall more effective way,

to hopefully get the pc running better.

Questions

What is the OS ?

İs the OS the original one, that came with the laptop?

How old is the computer?

what security programs do you have installed?

Please list all of them.

I deleted mcafee afree the clean reboot. I use Microsoft security essentials in addition to the above programs I already listed.

Im using W7 i5 and I got his laptop Christmas last year.  I'm going to make sure all the drivers are updated, it's honestly all I can think of other than it being the HD or motherboard.

Forget about the drivers for the moment.

Was McAfee running along  M.S.Essentials?

And the only other security you mentioned is spybot.

Are all these the ONLY security software you have installed?

Ok,

lets first make sure, that no malware is present on your system.

http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Please check mark all appropriate boxes, click on advanced settings

and checkmark 'scan for potencally unsafe apps''

Disable your antivirus just before you start the scan(remember to re-enable it afterwards)

At the end of the scan, have the scanner delete anything it finds.

if malware is found, please go to the malware forum.

Also your audio and video drivers, are they up to date?

Have you checked?

Re the registry.CCleaner is all  i use ,and then i only use it (the registry cleaning i mean)

after un-installing software.

So please do all of the above first, and report back

Have you checked your RAM?

How much of that do you have?

Sorry for the delay, the scanner took like 10 hours. Anyway the only issues was a msn plugin (that I installed recently) so I know that wasn't the problem.. this has been happening far longer than that. Thank you for the assistance though.

6GB.  It's funny because I was able to play Crysis fairly smoothly yet I can't even browse the internet and listen to iTunes without lag.  An no iTunes is not downloading any updates in the background either.  The audio stutters but recently the entire program and PC begins to lock up for a few moments.
