Re: Y570 - Why do games run better off my battery and choppy when its plugged in?

I'm talking about lag that started after I updated my graphics card. How did you roll back your graphics card? Has it stopped lagging since then?

I've fixed the lag that occurred after the update. I rolled back my driver then i downloaded my previous driver version (285.62) and I installed it, I chose custom and I ticked clean install. MW3 runs so smoothly again. I'm never going to update my graphics card again.

You guys are going to love me for this. If you are running the i7 version of the y570 (im not sure about the other processors) the turbo boost that is integrated in the chip is what is freezing the game. a quick fix is to go to your power settings. Control Panel -> Power Options. Make sure you have high performance on, then click change plan settings, at the bottom you will see change advance settings. when you get there scroll down to processor power management and set the max to 99% for both plugged in and on battery. keeping it at 99% keeps the turbo boost from kicking in and making the game act up. no need to use old drivers on your video card or anything like that. im fully updated and bf3 runs on high without even trying. hope that helps!

Also if it helps you click this star under my name so i know if it works for others :P

The stuttering has stopped a long time ago, but I will try setting both of them to 99% and seeing if it makes a difference in the performance of the game itself.

Sigh.. I kinda envy you velenso although I don't think I can sell mine which I bought at 999 due to its current condition (which is not in a bad condition)

Anyways yeah MW3 is now lagging with my computer.  Also, does anyone else have problems with Assassin's Creed Revelations?  Is it a really powerful game or is it something to do with our drivers again, because its fps is terrible around 15 fps.  And even after trying to switch the maximum and minimum power management for high performance, I still had crappy  fps issues.

I don't know about AC: Revelations, but I reinstalled the new drivers but this time I ticked clean installation and it works like a charm, no lag whatsoever. But I can't really feel a difference between this driver and my previous driver, I also change  the option in the advanced power management options to 99% and I still can't feel a difference.

Well I'm kinda sadden that I had to sell a laptop which I liked (apart for the buds) because I feel the management of lenovo don't care about the older models once the have the newer models in the R&B stage.

I'm almost 100% that there is a conflict in the power management or switchable graphic software which trys to reduce power usage once you start playing games, because that's what it has been designed to do (reduce power consummation).

I don't blame Lenovo for this because I've had this issues with other branded laptop (power management or switchable graphic software), but other branded laptops do have a fix.

Hopefully I'll find a laptop which falls in my zone of comfort for price, I do have funds to buy high end laptops but seeing that laptops are a very poor investment that depreciate by the second, that would be a stupid thing to do IMO.

I have seen a laptop with a new Gen i7 HD 6770m (plays the same as the GT555m) which I had before, this laptop is 2 months old and they want $700. Seeing it's been for sale to 2 weeks or so, pretty soon they should be getting desperate which is a good time to go in for the kill :smileywink: $650-$670 is looking good.

Well I'm not exactly sure mine's an old model as the only thing different between the current y570 is the processor.  Although looking at these forums, I can see that Mark does actually respond to these e-mails despte getting three-number amount of daily e-mails.

And this laptop was something I got at newegg at around 1k.  Kinda hefty price comparing to your purchase (not saying anything).  I bought it off last summer, and its beyond "mint condition or even like new" so the only alternative I have left is trying to make the best out of it.  I don't know what the problems concentrate on, the hardware or software, but hopefully solving the latter will prove succesful, and I won't have to come to this forum to always complain about how I can't run this and that.

Anyways, hopefully I can get help from you guys.

Well I will, I got mine Christmas eve from a seller on Gumtree I'm guessing it was an unwanted gift and the person would have rather the cash for over Christmas & New Years, he did want $700, plus here you can buy these off ebay  for as little as $771 + $19.95 delivery after a cash back offer.
When I say old model I don't mean it's not current, but rather something they have on the shelves selling instead of the next big thing they're working on.

I can confirm that setting your maximum power state to 99% rather than 100% will fix the stuttering, it looks like the turbo boost is actually making the games stutter. Thanks to the person who found the fix. :D
