Y580: Dolby audio driver not starting after reinstalling Realtek audio driver

2014-01-22, 4:24 AM

Hi,

I have reinstalled audio driver for my Y580. After that I am getting the error "Unable to restart the Dolby audio driver. Please restart the computer or reinstall the driver if the problem persists". What should I do now and from where can I find the driver to reinstall. I did not find it in Lenovo website.

Hi Cruver,

I have already tried that approach. But I did not find any option by name Audio Inputs and Outputs under Device manager. I am attaching the screenshot of what I found under Device manager. However I found sound video and game controllers option, but not sure if that is the one I have to delete before updating Conexant audio driver.

Thanks.

Yes that High Definition Audio Device is your Audio.

Ill give you a specific steps after that to recover the Dolby

It looks like you don't have Realtek driver installed but a Windows generic one. Download proper driver from Lenovo website and then try the Dolby thing. IMO it's not worth it. It's just a software effect...

hi

I see.

Follow these steps then and Im sure that your Dolby will be back.

1.  Open Control panel / Programs and Features / Uninstall a Program   Look for any Dolby components and uninstall those.

2.  Open My Computer / C: folder and Open Drivers folder. Look for Any Realtek Audio Folder and Delete that folder.

Download and Install this Driver

 Realtek Audio Driver

3. After Installation open My Computer Drive C: and open the drivers folder Now your Realtek Audio will be back

open that look for a Dolby Gui folder and you should find the Installer

Dolby HomeTheater or dolbyht

install that and open control panel again change the View of your control panel to small icons you should find the dolby application there launch it and it should be fine.

Hope this helps

Cheers!

Hi,

I have reinstalled the Realtek audio driver, but did not find the Dolby GUI folder in that.

hi

Make sure under device Manager the Realtek HD audio is now detected and not marked as high definition audio like the one you found earlier.

Try opening Drive C: and do a search for dolby like this

see if you will be able to search for a hometheater installer

I found one home theatre installer and was able to install that. There are a couple of other installers like DolbyDigitalPlusAA and DolbyDigitalPlusHT. Do I need to install them?.

hi

DolbyDigitalPlusHT is the one you have to install.

Then Open control Panel and change the view to small icons

You will find a Dolby app and Run that if that app worked ok then you're good to go.
