Re: downgrade lenovo ideapad z580

Hi shroder
Since you also plan on swapping hdd with ssd and use it, then if i were you, i would prefer doing a clean install of windows 7 on eindows 8 as it would be easier for you and there would be no possibility of messing your system.
For swapping the hdd, youcan refer to the hardware maintainence guide.
http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en-GB&redir_esc=&client=ms-android-samsung&source=android-browser-type&v=133247963&qsubts=1359028077473&action=devloc&q=y500+hardware+maintainence+manual&v=133247963
For drivers, refer to lenovo china site. Use google chrome only to open
http://support1.lenovo.com.cn/lenovo/wsi/Modules/Driverdownload.aspx?SearchType=1&LogicType=0&MachineId=11051&IsSeachOne=true&IsBackPage=false&ptype=2&typename=IdeaPad+Y500&from=select
Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply

I just want to make sure I understand your suggestion. Of the two possible options you are suggesting option 2?

1) Downgrade current HDD from win8 x64 to win7 x64 and then clone HDD to SDD

2) Downgrade current HDD form win8 x64 to win7 x64. Install SDD and boot from optical drive with win7 x64 OEM CD and perform win7 x64 clean install.

You were eluding to possibly messing up my system and I was wondering what those problems could be. If I downgrade my current HDD to win7 x64, will this cause OKR to become unusable?

Hi
It's good you made sure before doing anything. Good mind.
What i meant was to remove the hdd and insert the ssd without making any changes to hdd. Downgrading from win 8 to win 7 is almost like installing windows 7 again. So just insert the ssd in place of hdd and then install win 7 on it. So no downgrading on hdd. Only direct installing win 7 on ssd.
Fyi, if you make any changes to hdd such as clean install of any os or changing any partition sizes would mess up okr and in the future if you face any problem on win 8 hdd, then you wont be able to factory reset.
Hope this helps

Re: downgrade lenovo ideapad z580

Thank you!

One last question...Let's say something happens to the SSD running win7. If I put the HDD, with win8, back in the laptop, will the laptop boot up no problem? Or will I have to take some steps? Also is there any particular order I should install the drivers for win7?

Thank you

Hi again :D
If you put your hdd back with windows 8, there will be no problem in booting until and unless there are some major changes to hdd.

Re: Downgrade from Win 8 to Win 7 Success...(Y580)

2013-01-26, 3:43 AM

Hello

I'm following your guide to install win7 x64 on a new Ideapad Y500 (1Tb HDD + 16Gb SSD Cache). Before booting to the CD Drive I switched out the HDD and place a 256 Gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD in it's place. I hit F12 to boot to the optical drive and windows proceded to install. However I'm stuck where it's asking to me where to install windows.
 These are my options

Name                                                  Total Size                    Free Space             Type

1) Disk 0 Partition 1                         14.9 GB                         0.0 MB                    Primary

2) Disk 1 Unallocated space       238.5 GB                    238.5 GB

When I select option 1 I get error message (Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. WIndows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS. Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition is of an unrecognized type)

I know this is a thread for win7 x64 install on a Y580 but I'm pretty sure this will work for the Y500. I don't know what is going on with this SSD. Any help on this matter would be greatly apprieciated.

Hi again :D
The disk 0 partition 1 is the cache ssd(16 gb)
The disk 1 unallocated space is the ssd that you installed (256 gb)
So select the disk 1 and install on it. You can partition if you want.

Re: Downgrade from Win 8 to Win 7 Success...(Y580)

I have successfully downgraded my Y500 for win8 x64 to win7 x64, however a problem persists. My 16Gb SSD cache is not working. The computer sees the drive in the BIOS and in disk manager. However in computer, from the start menu, it is missing. If I run "eccmd.exe -info" in command prompt I get the following

"'eccmd.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

This should mean that express cache is not currently installed however it is currently installed. I have seen some solutions which suggest deleting the disk volume from the cache ssd in disk manager and then reinstalling express cache and it should fix the problem. However I don't see how that will cause windows to recognize the drive.
