Y580 won't even enter the BIOS and Lenovo logo

2013-02-19, 18:12 PM

Initially when pressing the power button, my Ideapad Y580 only responded by turning on the backlit keyboard and the screen but nothing shows up at the screen, not even the lenovo logo. What should I do ?. Have tried to pull out the battery and restart but still no result. What can I do ? I am abroad now and can't go back to Malaysia for a while for sure. All of my friends said this is hardware defect because can't even enter the BIOS or lenovo logo. Deeply disappointed. I bought it on february 3rd yet only able to use it for 2 days.

I know this may sound stupid, but can Lenovo provides me some compliments which will make me easier to repair my machine in the country I'm currently in, Indonesia ?

try the one key recovery button to boot your notebook.

Hi reagannism, welcome to the forum,

please try the following trick, it sometimes works in such situations.

Remove the power cord and battery, with these removed press and hold the power button for 5 seconds and repeat the process 10 times.  After this re-attach the power cord, (not the battery), and see if your system starts.  If all is OK shut it down again and attach the battery and then start the system again.

I certainly hope this helps.

Should you need service you can check which countries your system is eligible for service on this site.

I know this is out of topic, but I'm concerned that my notebook is secondhand (I don't know exactly. My aunt bought it for me, though) and sometimes when I check it's like my notebook  has Intel HD 4000 Graphics even when I check it on CPU-Z, This 4000 appears more often than GTX 660M on some pc info. I can't include the screenshot due to my broken laptop now, but is it normal ? Does Y580 really have some kind of dual VGA card, the Intel hd 4000 and GTX 660M ? Or this is not normal ? Thanks anyway

Yes some systems do have dual switchable graphics.

Did you check out if your system is eligible for service where you are?

Nope, it's not. Lenovo doesn't cover Indonesia in their international warranty :| Too bad..
Is anybody here from Malaysia ? How long does it take approximately for Lenovo Malaysia to fix such things ? Perhaps this is hardware defect..

Update. If I connect the machine to an external monitor, I could see everything on the external monitor (I'm using projector, to be precise) but sadly it skips the lenovo logo so even if I spam F2 etc. I can't enter BIOS. It straightly goes to windows. My screen looks fine, though. I still can adjust the brightness through fn + spacebar

Provided the information above (blank screen but works if connected to external display, can't enter BIOS and lenovo logo absence, no strange sounds) what is wrong with my Y580 ?
