Y700/Windows 10 keyboard turns off

2016-10-11, 16:22 PM

This problem has been plaguing me since I got this laptop in July: I'll be playing a game, surfing, or typing a document, and the keyboard just seems to go dead. Literally nothing works; not Fn commands, not macros, not the 10-key pad, nothing.

It isn't the anniversary update, this started before that dropped. It's not any particular application. A hard reboot seems to fix it, but sometimes only for a few minutes. The machine doesn't freeze entirely. I can continue to use the mouse to save files, access things, etc. forever, it seems.

I've read similar stories here, but nothing seems to fit the issue. Thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have also tried updating the keyboard driver. Windows tells me it's up to date.

I was wrong. It happens more with certain applications. There's one game I can't play for longer than about 5 minutes. Other games/apps it never locks, or goes for hours. If it's a hardware (motherboard) issue, would it be selective?

It may depend on the overall load, but i doubt it has a connection to the specific app crash. The thing might be relevant is the stress of the app on the GPU which is embedded to the MB and may cause it to crash.
Check out the Windows Event Viewer after a crash, seek for ACPI events.

Hello,

I have read your other threads and was wondering if the only way to fix the keyboard problem was to get a whole new motherboard or maybe laptop?

Uunfortunately, if the symptoms match the ones i have previously mentioned in my threads, than the answer is Yes.

However it might be related to other issues as well, Check out the Windows Event Viewer after a crash, look out for ACPI events, or anything related to the embedded controller.
