Z400 RAM & SSD Upgrade? it's possible?

2021-07-25, 21:36 PM

Hello. I have the z400 laptop model 20201, for about 6 years.

He currently has win8.1 and factory had win 8. He has win 8.1 because windows for a while let the upgrade be done for free for security reasons.

Currently has:

6 GB of RAM. 2 x 3gb ram 1600 MHz SODIMM slots

Hard drive already in not very good condition, I think 1T

1. I want to buy RAM, I think this model allows up to 16 GB of RAM. but I don't know which one I can buy? only 1600MHZ SODIMM?

Can it be changed or is it welded?

I would buy it in this store: https://www.pcfactory.cl/memorias-notebook?categoria=100 or else in Amazon

What do you recomend me?

2. SSD disk ... I want to remove the disk in bad condition hdd and install in the new disk SSD win 8.1 or better still install windows 10

I don't know, which one could I buy? what dou you recommend? I see that there are many and I do not know which one fits the notebook in question. neither which is more recommendable. I am interested that it lasts many years

https://www.pcfactory.cl/discos-ssd?categoria=585&papa=312

3. How to install the SSD and RAM?

Do you just take out the old and put on the new?

4. Bonus: When I remove the HDD and ram, do I lose the win8 license for that disk or is it kept because the operating system is inside that disk? I ask if I would like at some point to install that disk in case I can recover what I have on it. Nothing important, but to know

THANKS

SPANISH TRANSLATE:

Hola.

https://www.pcfactory.cl/discos-ssd?categoria=585&papa=312

Gracias

try to check the kingston website for RAM. Unfortunately if you want kingston ram please buy two 8GB of them because two different manufacturer make problems.

https://www.kingston.com/poland/us/memory/search?model=84303&devicetype=3&mfr=LEN&line=IdeaPad

ideapad Z400 model 20201. nowadays only have an HDD 5400rpm

I see a sticker with S/N  numbers and P/N numbers... that will help?

What SSD would be ok to install windows 10? how many Gb?

Should you remove the old HDD, put the new SSD and install windows? that simple?

and about the RAM ... does it have to be of that frequency or can it be another? I know that you should buy 2 of the same .. as Dewo86 says, 2 sticks of 8gb each. After installing it, will the system recognize them automatically?
