(Z50-70) Some keyboard buttons stopped working

2018-03-30, 16:37 PM

For some reason, yesterday I turned on my pc, and when I tried to write my password, It only wrote some letters. I searched on many forums and tried everything they said, remove battery and click on power buttom for 1 second, tried system restore, nothing works... It happened all of a sudden, the only numbers that work are 5 and 6. And all of the middle of keyboard buttons stopped working but G and H. Is there a solution or do I have to buy a USB keyboard?

Hi crybaby,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try connecting a USB external keyboard and check if you would be able to log in Windows.

If you think cleaning internal keyboard would help, blowing it with canned air is safer to use otherwise opening up the machine for a manual cleaning should help you decide if you need to replace the keyboard specially if the external keyboard works.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I already logged in using the virtual keyboard, Im sure that cleaning will not make anything because it was working perfectly and all of a sudden this happens...

Hi crybaby,

I usually test it in the BIOS on the security password option just to check if the keys work but not really saving it.

If it does fail then best to have it taken to a service center so that they can reseat the cables or decide if it would need replacement. I am also expecting that an external USB keyboard would work too which can confirm hardware failure.

Take time to back up your files while you can still log in to prevent data lost.

Regards

Hi crybaby,

Turn off the machine and press the Novo button (item7 page 9 of the user manual).

Novo menu would offer the BIOS set up and security tab most likely allow you to test the keys.

Note that this is just to test and do not save it (better yet to write down).

If you forget the BIOS password, there is no tool to reset it back.

I would never recommend that. If you accidentlly save an access password you are never going to get back in if the keyboard is faulty or you don't know what you really typed.

Download some bootable OS CD and test with that, But an external keyboard is an easy test.

Hi All,

Greetings.

There may be a risk even if you do not save it by manually turning it off, booting the machine with live image can be an option if the keys would allow it. Best to have it taken to a service center so that they can check it better.
