Z500 boot issue after updating to Windows 8.1

2013-10-23, 13:10 PM

Hi guys! Newbie here. :mantongue:

I'm not sure if this has already been asked before and all so I'm just putting it out here. (Thanks Mr./Ms. Mod! :D)

I recently updated my system to Windows 8.1 and I've been experiencing issues in booting up, restarting and shutting down. Not that it does that at times but it's REALLY taking too long for my system just to shut down, boot up or to restart compared to before I updated to 8.1 (Windows 8 essentially). I've tried installing updated drivers for  the system as found in the support page but it didn't seem to do anything. Tried doing the " sfc /scannow" thing in the command prompt and also configuring startup items. I also tried changing the fast boot setting and it just doesn't work. Last thing I want to do is a refresh or even a reset. Is this something Windows can fix or is it my system that's faulty? What could I do and how should I do it?

Thank you very much in advance, guys! The lag is still bearable though, it's just really annoying when comparing the "speed" now  to before I updated. Thanks again! :)

Hi z500_user,

Does your computer installed with an SSD?

Can you explain how the system slowed down the shutdown and boot up, like does it hang sometime while shutting down or startup?

"System with SSD caching software may get affected when upgraded to 8.1"

SSD caching is the one making the system utilize the SSD to speed up boot up time and shutdown response,

If you're used to SSD caching speed you' will feel the drop if speed when this feature is not working.

If you system does not have an SSD, Performing a Clean Boot may help,

Interesting, I have the same issue too, Z500 i7 with 1TB Standard Drive.

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and although everything runs fine the system shutdown and reboot times are far too excessive.

I've run all the checks and nothing returns, I've also disabled the hybrid shutdown.

I did also have an issue with the Brightness control which was resolved by updating the Intel graphics drivers.

Stuck!

Had the same problem. With a little search I found that the problem really was the Atheros Bluetooth driver. I unistalled it, let Windows recognize the bt as "Generic Bluetooth Device", and voila, the laptop shut's down in 20" and boots up at the same time.

Try it.

Well, I can say that uninstalling the Bluetooth adapter driver (and opting to delete the driver) resolves this issue.

Go to Device Manager

Expand "Bluetooth"

Right click and uninstall "Qualcomm Atheros..." device, check "Delete the driver software..." and then OK

Once completed, that's it!

Shutdown or reboot the machine and it should now be good.

It DOES re-install the driver but doesn't seem to cause the problem afterwards.

I've rebooted 3 times now and it’s all good!

THANKS!
