Re: Z510 Energy Management Windows 8.1 Defective

Previously I reported that the power management driver causes issues such as it not remembering my battery charging settings. Even after updating the BIOS to v39 and updated the LEM to v1.0.0.35, the issue is still present!!! It has been months and Lenovo still hasn't addressed the issue!!!

After troubleshooting, I think I have figured out what is causing the issue. It all boils down the the sequence of events on how I turn on/off my laptop and the charging state it is in. Lets take for example the following two cases:

Case 1: No issue here! LEM does remember my settings!

1) Charger connected to laptop

2) Shut down laptop

3) Remove charger

4) Reconnect charger

5) Turn on laptop

Case 2: ISSUES here!!!

1) Charger connected to laptop

2) Shut down laptop

3) Remove charger

4) Turn on laptop

5) Connect charger even before Windows boots

It seems that the drivers is having issues remember my settings if I turn on my laptop without keeping the previous charging state! In Case 2, other issues also occur such has remembering my touchpad settings or dual monitor settings...

Touchpad settings issue in case 2: If I had my external USB mouse connected before shutting down, after restarting my trackpad won't work even after pressing FN + F6. This is a big issue for me during traveling. In case I don't have my USB mouse, I can't even use the trackpad. To resolve this issue, I have to hold the power button to shut down the laptop and restart the laptop to get it working

Monitor settings issue in case 2: If I had a monitor connected using HDMI/VGA prior to shut down, if I restart the laptop in case 2 and no longer have my monitor connected, all my desktop icons disappear. Even when running certain programs, the laptop thinks the monitor is still there even though its not connected, thus I can't see the window of the program I lauched. I have to reconnect the monitor to see the window

There combination of sequences in case 2 that will cause these issue... It doesn't have to be shut down, it happen even during Sleep.

Hi,

I have a Z510, and I think the issue is related to the battery problems faced in Z510. As reported in other forums, over the course of months, the battery indicator becomes very erratic. However, when I'm plugged in, there is no issue. This behaviour seems to be consistent with your observation, where the problem only happens when the system boots up on Battery power alone.

Like the firmware update that was provided for the Z500, I think Lenovo should look into this and provide a solution for the Z510 ASAP.

Can anyone from Lenovo please acknowledge that there IS a problem here?
