Re: Z560 - Core i5, Nvidia Gefore 310m - Switchable Graphics?

2011-03-30, 14:38 PM

I just want to follow up with the posters in this thread that are unhappy that the Z560 is missing Optimus.  Go over to the nVidia forums and look at the Optimus postings. It's a mess.  I purchased an Acer with Optimus and it's so flaky as far as switching properly to the nVidia card.  For instance, anything that runs as a secondary process(say Unity3D from a browser Window) isn't recognized and as such uses the Intel card always.  There's no way to force a global use of the nVidia card either.  So I returned the Acer with Optimus and buying one of these Z560s so I don't have to deal with the headaches of Optimus.  I would rather have lower battery life and actually be able to use the powerful video card on board.

Yep, I thought so. 2 different GPUs in one PC/NB would never work flawless

And like I said, the 2nd GPU is never completly off, it need always power. And I don´t see the point to use 2 different GPUs to save energy, except the 2nd GPU is very "thirsty"
