Z580 and Win8

2012-10-27, 8:59 AM

Hello everybody! As you all know, windows 8 was released on Thursday/Friday. I have read that all of the y580 upgraders are having problems with the drivers. Has anyone with a z580 upgraded to win8 and has had no problem with any oft the drivers? Thanks for your help!!

Hi nikolay1243,

For awhile, it's going to be the same as every other OS that's ever been released.

Some things will work and others will not.  Windows 8 has its own driver support for most of the hardware.  One of the problems is that people will go on the driver site and download and install every driver there just because it's a newer driver and then wonder why things don't work.  If things work out of the box, don't be too quick to update it.

All of the manufacturers are rushing around to get their driver sites up and running.  Some drivers are going to be buggy.

If you are going to update drivers, download and install one at a time and run it for awhile to see if there are any issues.  If there aren't, then try another one.  When you get to one that doesn't work right, at least you will know which one isn't quite right.  If you install all of them at once, you'll never know which one screwed up the system and you'll have to start over fresh.

Keep an eye on the Forums and see what the issues are.  There's bound to be things that need fixed.

Had big issues upgrading to WIN8.  Got almost everything working, except camera and touchpad doesn't work for the sweeping motions it supposed to.

Oh, and the USB 3 isn't working either

I got the Card Reader to work, as well as USB 3.0 and the camera.  I did have to download the generic drivers from the Realtek site for the audio and synaptics for the touchpad, though they aren't the Lenovo specific ones.  One thing that really helped was doing a clean install, I initially did an upgrade but that caused all kinds of issues.  I am anxious to get the OSD theater buttons working again, and the right audio and touchpad drivers, but so far it's going great, those are pretty minor considering.

i'm having an issue installing the dolby theater.  it tells me that pcee needs to be installed first,  and i'm having issues installing the trackpad drivers.  it's says to install the 64 bit drivers... I did.  i'm okay with the trackpad but I really want to get the dolby stuff running.
