Z70-80 Bios update for Spectre & Meltdown Intel fix. Where is it??

2018-11-12, 2:12 AM

I checke a list of updated systems and the old T520 seems to have it but not this new IdeaPad I have. My system has slowed down a lot with patch imposed via MS Updated for Win 10.

Intel says the OEM's are to release bios updates for provide a better fix as I understand it.

But nothing is showing up at all.

Hi tripplec,

Welcome to the community forums.

The Ideapad Z70-80 is not on the list: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/len-18282 Could you tell us the BIOS version of your laptop? Did the issue occur after installing the patch from Windows update?

As you know there have been a sequence of patch released through MS for the vulnerabilities. I am a bit tickef off because I bought this notebook with enhanced tech and decrete graphics so it would last a long time and not become outdated soon. I still have the original Hybrid HD which boots very fast normally but not longer. Other apps also take a lot longer to load and over the year has slowed down

FYI There hasn't been a bios update for a very long time. I check every now and then but nothing even before the issue arose in Intel Processors. I would seriously consider AMD should I be force to buy another system down the road.

Well, it appears Lenovo is not going to do anything about a BIOS release to improve it handling the soft patches in Win 10.

I am ticked off at Intel allowing generations of their CPU's affected by this problem in their design of their architecture. I have always bought Intel based systems for their entire existence of x86 CPU's starting with the 8088, 8086 onwards...Now if I have to look at another system when this is cleaned up. I am going to look at the APU's from AMD.
