bluetooth headset not showing in devices to connect in LENOVO Z500, with windows 8

2013-12-10, 16:23 PM

Hi,

I've a Nokia BH-503 bluetooth headset, which successfully connects to my samsung galaxy phone, but it doesn't show up in devices in my laptop when I search for bluetooth devices. My bluetooth driver is also updated I guess. I can't find what exactly is the issue. Please help.

hi rohitjain-rj,

Just to verify, is the bluetooth device similar to the picture below?

If it is, then the bluetooth driver is not properly installed. Try to download and run Bluetooth Driver Installer (this tool will identify if you have an Intel, Atheros, Realtek, or a Broadcom Bluetooth Device) and post a screenshot here.

Let me know your findings.

Regards

Hi neokenchi,

Thanks for your reply. I had Broadcom Bluetooth Driver installed, which I uninstalled, as I read somewhere that the normal bluetooth driver doesn't work with Bluetooth Headset. I guess I need an A2DP enabled bluetooth driver, which I haven't been able to find for my laptop.

hi rohitjain-rj,

Your right. The generic bluetooth driver may not accommodate the A2DP, HSP, HFP, and the Audio Video Remote Control Profile on your Nokia BH-503 device and you may need to install the Broadcom bluetooth driver for it to work.

Try one of the following:

1. Navigate to the D:\Drivers\Bluetooth folder and run the setup to install the bluetooth driver.  If there's no driver in the D:\Drivers\Bluetooth folder, download and install this one:

Bluetooth Driver (Liteon/Atheros, CyberTan/Broadcom) for 64-bit Windows

Version: 12.0.0.4604/8.0.0.210

During installation, you will see the drivers being installed as shown in this picture. Open Device Manager and observe if the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator changes back to Broadcom Bluetooth.

2. If problem remains, download and install this driver:

WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software for Windows

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

Hi neokenchi,

I installed the driver as you said. But I didn't see that screenshot in between the process. However, some drivers were installed. Here's the snapshot of the drivers showing in the Device Manager:

With WIDCOMM software, it's saying that "plug-in or turn on your bluetooth device". I don't know which device is it talking about. My laptop bluetooth is on.

hi rohitjain-rj,

You can ignore the Step #2 above as the WIDCOMM software is only for Broadcom bluetooth adapters. Since you have an Atheros bluetooth adapter and there are still generic bluetooth devices, try to navigate into C:\Drivers folder and look for Bluetooth or Atheros folder and run the setup. When done, try to pair the Nokia BH-503 headset and observe.

Hi neokenchi,

No positive outcome. After I installed Atheros driver, after restarting, a pop-window came saying: "RVS is already running". And the headset is still not found. :( It is not even showing in the list of bluetooth device, so I can't even try to pair it.

hi rohitjain-rj,

If you manage to install the bluetooth driver software under C:\Drivers\Bluetooth\Atheros but the device manager didn't update its bluetooth contents then it's most likely not installing properly.

Try these:

1. On the image below, right click on the Microsoft Blluetooth Enumerator > choose Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software and point it to C:\Drivers\Bluetooth\Atheros. Do the same thing for Microsoft Bluletooth LE Enumerator

2. Download and install the Atheros Bluetooth Driver Software from this website:

http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=77&system=5

If the above steps doesn't work, you may want to perform a System Restore or a System Recovery (via the OneKey Recovery button) to restore the bluetooth device's functionality (ensure that you backup all of your important files).

Hi,

I also got Lenovo Z500 and seen similar issues with Bluetooth not working. My unit has Artheros Wifi and bluetooth device showing up as AR3012.

I fixed my issue after looking in to numerous forum and lenovo forums.

Z500 Ideapad, Intel i7-3750, 8cores, 16 gb Ram, Windows 8 64-bit, Vmware Workstation 10, 120 GB EVO SSD, Secondary 1 TB Hybrid SSD.
