charger beep

2009-03-05, 0:25 AM
Hi I just bought a Y430 and my charger makes an internal beeping sound everytime I plug my charger in or when I take it out. I have called tech service and they can't seem to find the problem. Looked through bio, and device manager but still nothing. Has anyone had this problem before thanks.

That is an IdeaPad feature that has been included in the Y430/Y530/Y730 laptops. The Y530 and the Y730 have a setting in the BIOS to enable/disable it. However the Y430 doesn't have it. You will have to bear with it until a BIOS update is released to allow disabling.

Start -> Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback

there you must see PC Beeper level - just lower it or disable at all.

Most assuredly it works.

1) right click on the speaker icon, bottom left of window near the time -- choose "Sounds"

2) select "Playback" tab

3) double click on "Speakers"

4) select "Levels" tab

5) click on mute icon for "PC Speakers"

I am having a similar problem with my Y650. I tried the suggestions here, but it did not work. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

This issue (unplugging the charger makes a horrendous noise) is fairly well documented on the U330. Try Googling 'U330 Beep' to find other threads and possible fixes.  Lenovo's official response to requests to have the BIOS updated to avoid this was that any change to the BIOS to disable this useless noise would be considered above and beyond "support" as it is not an actual error with the programming. I mute my entire system to avoid this noise and am still trying various ways found in this forum.

Basically "Tough Luck" to all Ideapad customers - another instance of incredibly poor customer service by Lenovo.
