hd 4000 problem limited gpu core to 650 mhz during games (real core should be 11500 mhz)

2013-02-22, 0:58 AM

I am writting here to ask for help because i cannot solve the following:

I bought a new   lenovo p500 ( i5 6gb hd 4000 )

I installed fifa 13 and i realized the game was running very slow...around 29  frames per second .

I checked the gpu  core mhz with gpu z and i realized that the graphic card was running the game in 650 mhz...

i remember i tried  the latest drivers from  intel, then the latest drivers from lenovo ,  turned the power setup to "high performance" and i dont know how the game started to play at around 800/1100 mhz  at a stable 60 fps...i mean the performance was perfect...

the day after,  i dont know why,(i didnt do any major change)  the gpu  couldnt get over the 650 mhz again...fifa's performance was much worse...

i was using gpuz this afternoon and when starting its rendering tool  the gpu started at 1000mhz...(i hadnt done anything) then i restarted the computer and did the same and the core was limited to 650 mhz again.....its kind of random...

at the moment i tried both intel and lenovo last drivers  again and both play at 650 mhz...

i dont know what is limitting  my gpu...the temperature of the card is around 58 ° so it is not temperature..

is there any way to solve this??

well...i hope you can help me..

thanks

claudio

please somebody from lenovo help me.....

i think this must be  a power saving bug....because the few times the machine works ok...(1100 mhz) then it slows down if i unplugg the power cable...and almost never goes up again..

I run ran boarderlands 2 and gpu-z is reporting my max gpu speed at 1100 MHz, so no problems here, i am using the latest lenovo hd4000 driver, have you tried re-installing it.

I have my cpu set to balanced and my gpu set to speed.

my i5-3210m gpu goes from 350MHz to 1100MHz

John,

thanks for your response..

i understanmd that the core has to go from 350 mhz to 1100 mhz during hames so your notebook behaviour is ok..

mine is going from 350 to 650 and then it stops..

the weirdest part is the following:

maybe i turn on the pc...use gpuz rendering and the core goes to 1100 mhz...

then i restart the pc..without touching anyrthing...and do  the same rendering..and the core goes to 650 mhz...

it seems totally random...

i am using the drivers that come with the lenovo because i did a system recovery ...

before i had the latest drivers installed and i still had the problem...

i have realized that if the machihne is plugged, and  it is correctly working 1100 mhz...if i unplugg it then the core goes to 650 mhz...i believe this is some kind of power saving bug...

i would try to download a new bios but there is none in lenovo page...
