Re: new disk partioning and one key recover feature

One key recovery works from the hard drive. So if your hard drive has
failed then it is out of the question.
Any 7 mm hard drive or SSD will fit in the laptop.
If you have made recovery discs before then you can use them to restore
everything back to factory default. You can also order the discs from
lenovo .
Cheers...

Ideapad Y 580
Core i7 3630, 8Gb 1600Mhz, 1TB HDD + 32GB mSata SSD, 1920x1080.... BDRW.....
Win 7 for now ......... till Lenovo gives us Rapid Drive on Win 8 ;-)

Thanks. I'll have to get these discs. I went through the support site and I couldn't find it. Do you have a link directly to where I can get them?

Also, is there any way I can just download images and burn them?

For systems purchased in European and a few other countries, recovery discs can be ordered through the following site.  Charges for admin and postage will unfortunately apply;

And just to clarify, these discs will allow me to restore the laptop to how it was even though there will be a new, completely blank HDD? What about Windows by the way?

They will restore the system to factory state, as it was when you first took it out of the box.

Re: new disk partioning and one key recover feature

Hi all.
I have an Y570 laptop with a 750G HDD.
HDD has 4 primary partitions:
1. ext4 - for linux
2. ntfs - for win7
3. ntfs - for data
4. 1gb ntfs - ex-onekey partition.
At present moment multi-boot is operated by grub2.
I want to reconfigure my laptop to boot grub2 after pressing power button, and boot directly win7 after pressing novo key.
How should I do it ?

Re: new disk partioning and one key recover feature

Hi!

I recently had my motherboard + hdd replaced via warranty and sadly I received a blank slate. No OS, no partitions.

I was able to recreate the OneKey Recovery environment and was able to restore from a backup image I made before my parts were replaced.

My question is, is it possible to recreate the "initial system backup" of my laptop? Because, currently, whenever I try to restore using the initial backup it prompts me that it cannot find the backup (probably because of the missing partitions).

Thanks for the response.

No you cannot use the restore to initial backup option as what you already have experience. One of the hidden partition no longer has the pre-installed OS on it. So you are stuck at the user backup image for restoration purposes.

It is possible to fix the problem but you need another similar unit. Or you can try contacting Lenovo and inquire about their OneKey Recovery Disc set.

So I got a u430 Ideapad touch. Does anyone know how safe it would be to wipe the harddrive and install Windows 7 on it? I know I can get the Windows 8 product key and reinstall 8 if I need to, but I'd like to be safe and make sure this would be ok. I couldn't really find any info on the partitions online so I have no idea how crucial they are.

If you are not interested in the One Key Recovery feature then IMO the installation will be like the normal way of doing it. Drivers are available in the site for win 7/8/8.1 (this is where some encounter problems). You do need to know how to set the bios so that you can boot the installation media first (DVD or flash drive).

Regarding the info on partitions try reading the postings in this thread. You win find them for OKR 7 and OKR 8 features.
