Re: new disk partioning and one key recover feature

2015-12-02, 0:11 AM
I would like to amend this by stating that viewing disks in ubuntu shows that PBR_DRV does exist, but it cannot be mounted in ubuntu, preventing me from being able to copy the contents that I need for my OKR8 backup. Any advice on how I can access the partition in ubuntu or what I could be doing wrong here?

Thank you.

have a y700.  will okr make a factory backup i can use to restore the system with the same partition and win10 install as it came from the factory?

I want to wipe it clean, and do a win10 fresh install on the ssd, (with new partitions).   I don't want to completely abandon the factory set up though, and keep it as a backup in case I ever want to go back, have problems with the fresh win10 install, or have to return the laptop (newegg seems to be serious about not accepting returns if the okr is gone).

thanks in adv

I just live with the Lenovo partitioning as I don't want to mess the OKR at this time of Novo feature.

As for the PBR_DRV its specicial partition type. There are many type #'s for partitions and thats a science unto itself. Your Ubunta tools are designed to work with it. You would need something else. But they run under windows for the most part.

I don't understand all the partitioning implications either. Yeah I could remove then and reclaim some space. But its mere MB's and not worth the hassel or time fixing glitches later. If the boot order is affected.

Re: new disk partioning and one key recover feature

Hi,

I have a Y700 (15-ISK) and I want to add a M.2 SSD to use as a boot drive with Win10. I already have a 5400rpm HDD which contains the Onekey Recovery part, the D part for drivers and the C part for Windows.

I want to make a fresh install of Win10 on the SSD and use the actual C partition of the HDD to store principally some media files. I plan to erase the C part, but I want to keep the D and the hidden partition for Onekey, so no resizing of partitions would be done.

Is that possible to keep the Onekey fonction by doing this? Or am I obliged to loose this fonction by adding a M.2 SSD?

My main issue with the loss of these partitions is that I don't want to loose the one year warranty. If something is wrong with the hardware, I want to be able to set it as it was manifactured.

Thanks a lot!

I don't know why this old post is still here, but, seeing it casually, I'd like to say something about:

Disk Partioning and OneKey Recovery Feature

 03-05-2008 02:08 PM - last edited on ‎03-29-2008 07:45 PM by JaneL

Why does my Hard Disk Drive (HDD) capacity appear to be smaller than expected?

(This tip applies to Lenovo 3000 Y410, IdeaPad Y510, IdeaPad Y710, and Lenovo 3000 K100 Desktops)

Lenovo creates three partitions on the installed Hard Disk Drive:

  1. The smaller drive commonly known as the C drive which contains Windows and your pre-installed software. The C drive should NOT be resized otherwise your OneKey recovery may no longer operate.

........

Well I have a Lenovo Z50-70 since January 2015 and I resized and shrinked my HDD

Nevertheless, my OKR is still regularly operating as I had to successfully restore the C: partition from a previous OKR-backup by the hardware button.

NOTE: D and R partitions contains private data, the X partitiion is the original Lenovo (it contains eg. the Drivers folder), the last service no-name 14,80GB partition I think be the original factory recover.

If you can post a snapshot of the partitions as shown in disk management (winkey + x, then disk management) it would certainly convince anybody to help you.
