Re: windows 10 upgrade for y40-70 error "Internal Power Error"

I have followed all of the steps everyone has provided, but when I go to update the driver online using "Search automatically for updated driver software" option in windows driver update, it gives me an error:

"There is no driver selected for the device information set or element".

It finds and dowloads the driver, but gets caugt at this error every time right befre it installs it. What do I do? How do I prevent this error and finish the update so I no longer get the blue screen and internal power error?

Would like to see a status on how to fix the display driver issue before attempting to upgrade to Windows 10. I'm one of those who blundered ahead with the Win10 upgrade and after experiencing the error had to restore the previous Win 8.1 version. I would rather wait until Lenovo provides a fix to Windows 8.1 before moving ahead with the upgrade. I'm sure Lenovo must be engaged with locating a solution after seeing so many problems on this machine platform. Hoping this is the case.

Fastest way to set Safe Mode is to:

1) Press Windows + R

2) Type msconfig.exe

3) Press enter

4) Click Boot Tab

5) Check Safe Mode with Minimal

Fastest way to disable video card:

1) Press Windows + R

2) Type devmgmt.msc

3) Press enter

4) Expand Display adapters

5) Right Click the AMD Display Adapter

6) Choose Disable

If you are having problems downloading the driver from Microsoft then I suggest downloading the driver from Lenovo.  That was the way I updated my driver.

Re: windows 10 upgrade for y40-70 error "Internal Power Error"

Same problem here with my Y40-80.

It began on 7/27, when I was running Insider build 10240. There was a new AMD dirver update in the windows automatic update. After that, after 30 seconds logged into system, I got a blue screen "INTERNAL POWER ERROR".

Restored, reinstall 10162, 10240 many times, that update was downloaded and installed automatically, so everything remained the same. And I found this troubleshooter:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

which can hide certain update from the auto updates.

So I logged into a fresh installed 10240, run that trouble shooter, it will find new updates and let you choose whether to download it. And I located that driver and "hide" it. No more problem.

But I need to use my AMD graphic card, so I tried to go to device manager and update driver from there, it turned out downloading a different not so new driver with works perfect without bluescreens.

After 5 days and many times reintalling, I lost my activation of Win 10 as an Insider, and most of my softwares, games, I don't blame Lenovo too much. It's the auto update in Windows that sucks the most!
