y560 HDMI audio

2010-08-05, 3:16 AM

Anyone got this working? I have an y560 i5 w/ switchable graphics and can't get audio on HDMI.

a.) Yes I am using the ATI card, and yes HDMi is plugged in and TV is on.

b.) There is no HDMI device selectable in sound properties. Only speakers and digital, neither work. I assume digital is SPDIF.

c.) I am using realtek drivers that came with the laptop. I tried to install the realtek ATI HDMI device driver but it said I did not have a compatible device.

d.) the TV and cable definitely work with hdmi audio, they work fine w/ a playstation3.

I think the root of the issue is that I don't have an HDMI device recognised by the OS, but I can't find any drivers on lenovo's website that would seem to fix the problem. In fact the realtek drivers on lenovo's site are older than the ones I'm running. Like I said going directly to realtek to download ATI HDMI driver doesn't work.

i couldn't find it either :) - as i remember -

try this :

this will turn off sound from the speakers or normal audio output on the laptop.  to get that back you will have to reverse this process.

 - click on the "start" button

 - click on "control panel"

 - with the control panel in "control panel home" view please click on "hardware and sound"

 - where it says "sound" in green letters there are three options below that are in blue click on "manage audio devices"

 - this will bring up a window labeled "sound"

 - on the "playback" tab there is listed the sound options available to you. one should read "digital output device (hdmi)" click on that.

 - there should now be a check mark on that option.

 - the sound should then play through your hdmi hookups to the tv.

post back if it works.

@ pepemosca

have you tried to download the drivers from realtek directly?

yigit, as I mentioned, there is no HDMI audio device listed in sound properties. Hence why we are playing the driver game.

A few others have this issue too.

wintermute000, had you try using the Windows 7 standard drivers insted the Realtek?

Sadly, I cannot make the trials because I don't have a HDMI cable.

Also, I don't have installed the Realtek drivers and have the Windows 7 default drivers and I see the HDMI output.

OK I'll try uninstalling realtek drivers.
Either way this is unacceptable, it should ship out of the box working.
Out of the box realtek is installed.
Pepe out of curiousity did you have issues with any other drivers? I had major issues with both wireless and SATA until I reverted to manufacturer and windows native drivers respectively.

I don't have any problems with the Wireless (I use the ones from here http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=661448)

Also, I don't have SATA drivers problems.
I also use the Intel ones on http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=661448.

Strange your situation.

OK this is getting WEIRD

Yesterday for some reason it all started automagically working. I plugged in the HDMI and the ATI HDMI audio device appeared and working fine. I made NO CHANGES to do this, it just started working.

Then today, its gone......  plug in HDMI, same cable same TV, haven't made any changes to anything, ATI audio device does not appear. What the!!!  Yes discrete graphics turned on.
