Dont risk it, flashing an unofficial image can void your warranty. Bad flash is another thing. Even if you flash to a hacked bios, then warranty will be definetly void.

You cannot just buy any wifi adaptor it has to be on lenovo wifi whitelist or it will not work, i remmeber a z580 owner a few weeks ago asking this question he had a broadcom wifi adaptor 72mbps max is approx 8MB/s

The service manual only mentions a few other wifi cards, not much of a choice.

Yes, the whitelist can be a problem. You most likely have to flash a hacked bios to make it work. Thats if you are lucky enough to have a hacked bios available to flash. Tread carefully. Warranty should not be void as long as they can't blame your device failure on your modification. A bad flash is your problem. Also thats mostly in theory. Anytime Lenovo makes some BS excuse to not cover the warranty, its your burden to sue them and make them honor it.

I 've seen that lenovo z580 comes with different wifi adapters.Mine has a broadcom 4313 which is the worst of them.If I put to my laptop another adapter model which Lenovo puts in z580 models (etc Atheros) ,I have to flash my bios or it will work with them?

2013-02-19, 13:13 PM

I want to use a modded bios in my z580 so I could remove the whitelist to install another wifi card.Is there anyway to back up my current bios because i think that if I install a moded bios I will lose my win 8 key.

Lenovo has not the bios file in their site

The thread in the link below, has a link to an Z580 bios, i dont know if it`s old, or for Win7, it`s not easy to find an Z580 bios

You would think the Win8 key, would not be changed after a bios update, i dont really know.
