BUYERS BEWARE (Y650 418556U DISPLAY NOT AS ADVERTISED)

2009-08-08, 1:13 AM

how about it lenovo you advertise-you take orders- you ship out a product=and then you release the specs 30 days after you charged my credit card. my laptop showed up with CCFL display even though your website and all reviews say it had a LED backlit display.your PSREF doc # 360 also says this model was announced in us market aug 5 2009. i ordered it of your web site july 5 2009. I took delivery on july 13 in USA. your warranty lookup says my warranty started june 28 2009. this would be before lenovo even knew who I was. it would sure be nice if someone who works for lenovo starts trying to explain some of this.

The reason why your warranty shows on the website as June 28, 2009 is because that's when it was produced. If you fax in / email in your receipt to a Lenovo Technical Support they can make the necessary adjustments to your case and give you that full 1 year warranty that you deserve... In many cases you may actually get a few more months ontop of that but only those techs can officially see that.

I just ordered this same model from Lenovo. The website said that the notebook came with a LED display, Here. Can someone from Lenovo verify that my notebook will be coming with a LED display and not a CCFL display.

Thank you.

How do you tell the difference between a CCFL and an LED backlit lcd? This could help others who might have been ripped-off too.

Well apparently the difference is hard to tell. Makes sense that Lenovo could rip off customers by sneaking in a CCFL backlight. The main differences is that an LED backlight will save battery life and provide a more precise, accurate picture.

So I am really starting to worry, even though the website says that the y650 base model comes with a LED backlight. Four posts above says it doesn't.

Can someone please shed some light on this. If not I think I am just going to cancel my order. I don't want to deal with these stupid headaches. And if someone has the specs for this model, I would appreciate it if they could post them here. I have a feeling I am getting ripped off on other supposed features too.

If you have used some notepads, you can clearly see the difference. LED back lit ones are very much brighter than the CCFL ones. I have used several thinkpads which are CCFL lit, but when I received Y550 I instantly knew it was LED lit. You can very easily spot the difference. Same with LCD and LED TVs too....

look on the back of your lap top and see if you have a label that says your computer contains mecury in a lamp. as far as i know no other items in this laptop except for a CCFL lamp would contain mercury. As far as brightness the CCFL is plenty bright for what i need but it still needs to be disclosed at time of sale not 30 days after sale.i also have info from PSREF employee to back up my claim.the day I oredered my laptop the website said nothing about base model although you would think a base model would have a lower MSRP. than a high end model . Come on lenovo.

Thank you so much! I apparently ordered the same model as you expecting to receive a notebook with a LED backlight. The website clearly states that this model, 4185-56U, comes with an LED Backlight. However the PSREF clearly states that it comes with a CCFL display. So basically Lenovo tricked me into buying this model. I thought I was ordering a LED backlit display but obviously not. False advertising at its best. Anyone from Lenovo care to explain this screw up to me......
