Can I install DDR3L 1.35V in my Ideapad Z500?

A few days ago I saw a flash deal on amazon to 16GB RAM. I buy quickly before it's over. So I could upgrade my memory of 8GB to 16GB.

Today I received the RAM and see that it says "Mac Compatible" ... And I see is DDR3L 1.35V instead of DDR3 1.5V, which my laptop currently used.

Can I install these 1.35V modules  in my Ideapad Z500?

In the Amazon reviews I have seen people he has worked perfectly with these Lenovo models: T400, T500, Flex 2, T420

Re: Can I install DDR3L 1.35V in my Ideapad Z500?

Hi lirikko ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

DDR3L  are backward compatible and is able to work on both 1.35V / 1.5V .

For as long as the BIOS does not restrict / or deemed not compatible that it would be worth a try.

This would not be cause your pc to die as it will simple prevent start up or intermittent BSOD if not compatible.

Herewith is the hardware manual along with recommended FRU list for the parts upgrade if needed.

Update us how it works for you.

Regards

It is Ivy Bridge. Ivy Bridge supports both 1.35v and 1.5v DDR3 modules.

The answer based on the processor needs is no. See the hardware maintenance manual for the Z500. All ram (from the manual) specified is of the DDR3 type. To confirm lookup the processor type in Intel's site to see the type of compatible ram to use.

I have to revise the above answer as follows. The answer will depend on the processor use in the unit. For example, If the processor is the 2nd gen I3-2350M as given in the specs you need DDR3. If your unit comes with the i7, DDR3 or DDR3L can be use. So to be sure you need to lookup the processor use and confirm the specified ram to be use with it.
