Can't adjust brightness in Windows 8.1 for IdeaPad Z400

I can't adjust or change my brightness with the hotkey (F11 and F12) or even with the slider in settings

Re: Can't adjust brightness in Windows 8.1 for IdeaPad Z400

Hi Sam,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that brightness functionality is not working as expected in your Z400 Laptop; I suggest you to install LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and the latest display drivers in the computer according to the relevant OS (Operating System) installed. Below are the links to download the relevant display driver:

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Re: Can't adjust brightness in Windows 8.1 for IdeaPad Z400

I just updated the Z400 Touch in our lab to Windows 8.1 and the brightness couldn't be adjusted too. It was fixed by reinstalling the Intel graphic card driver as Shiv_k pointed above.

Good job!

Re: Can't adjust brightness in Windows 8.1 for IdeaPad Z400

This solution also works for the same exact problem on IdeaPad P500.

To be clear you have to install both (1) the Lenovo Power Management for 8.1 ; AND (2) one or the other of the video drivers for Windows 8.1 (intel or nvidia) linked to. (I know Shiva wrote that but I initially overlooked it and thought I needed to just select one from the list of 3 updates).

To find out which video drive you have:

Look in: Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - that is your video card - double click
on it and Driver's tab tells you version.

Also I found for the Intel video driver I could not just Run it, I had to Save it then Run it.

And it asked me if I was sure because what I wanted to install was older than the version on my computer.  I went with installing the (slightly) older version (Intel HD Graphics 10.18.10.3277) since what was there (10.18.10.3316) wasn't working with windows 8.1.

Upon restarting computer all is good.  I think the contrast might also be better but that also could be my imagination after trying to deal with the super dim display for an hour while I looked for a solution.

Re: I tried everything and it doesnt work

Does lenovo have any plans of updating those old drivers to newest intel ones that work with brightness in 8.1?

Reverting back to old drivers should not be a solution, since drivers updates are needed to fix a a lot other problems.

Can you find out if is there any information of a new driver coming?  if yes!    when will that be?
