Changing the WiFi card in my Z50-75

2015-02-26, 18:51 PM

Hi all,

I just started an attempt to (officially)  upgrade the WiFi card in my Z50-75.

When I bought the unit, it had the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x B/G/N card installed, I will now try to replace it with a Broadcom BCM43162-AC card.

I found a seller on Aliexpress who is selling this Broadcom card with the original Lenovo Partnumber 20-200573, which is also indicated in the Z50-series Service manual.

Today I ordered the part, I will let you know if the part was genuine and has the proper Lenovo ID in its firmware.... ;-)

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Broadcom-BCM43162-1x1ac-BT4-0-M-2-Combo-card-for-lenovo-E455-FRU-04X6019/32258787844.html

For sure it will take some time for shipping to Spain, when it arrives I will keep you posted.

Un saludo from Spain,

Re: Changing the WiFi card in my Z50-75

Hi all,

IT WORKS with my Win8.1 machine! No issues with BIOS, just old card out, new card in.

This card has drivers here: http://support.lenovo.com/services/ie/en/productdownload/getdownloadslister/dd7b5b9c-b84d-4ca7-b487-0b7e881bb667?pageNumber=2&SelectCategory=Driver-and-Software&BySortField=Content&BySortOrder=Ascending&ProductSelection=Laptops-and-netbooks%2FThinkPad-Edge-laptops%2FThinkPad-E455&DataSource=ce8a46b7-b51e-4970-8659-bd20c7626d8e&PageSize=10

For now it uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but since my router is N-only (for now)  it does not use the AC-speeds yet.

I ordered an ASUS AC-router.

The card is now for sale here:  http://es.aliexpress.com/item/Broadcom-BCM43162-1x1ac-BT4-0-M-2-Combo-card-for-lenovo-E455-FRU-04X6019/32258787844.html?recommendVersion=1

Check for the Lenovo PN 20-200573 and the FRU number 04x6019.

It is shown as a BCM802.11ac Network Adapter, the BT is shown as BCM2035.

Succes!!

Un saludo from Spain,

Re: Changing the WiFi card in my Z50-75

Hi all,

I received my ASUS RT-AC66U router a few days ago, and now I can confirm the new card in my Z50-75 does use the 5GHz also.

Since the Z50-75 internally has only 2 antennas, it uses only one channel, but if I am near enough to the router (10m) it reaches speeds up to 433Mb.

Un saludo,

Satbeginnner

Can i just say that i updated my daughters Z50-70 to this card from the above seller and instaled the drivers (bluetooth and wlan) from the above link and it works perfectly.

Thank you very much.

Hi i have a lenovo z50 75 i want to buy the broadcom upgrade.I see on broadcom official site this :

"5G WiFi 802.11ac Client
Product Code: BCM43162
Implements the one- and two-stream 802.11ac specification to enable speeds up to 433 and 867 Mbps, respectively, and is backward compatible with legacy 802.11b/g/a/n devices."

433 and 867 this are the real specification ? Because i have i an asus 1200 g plus router with the same speeds, and 1000Mb internet speed from Rcs Rds in Romania. And i want to use internet speed on WiFi nearly to maximum.ty

I also ordered my "dual" (2.4 and 5.0 GHz) wi-fi-card, "BT4.0 NGFF Wireless Card Atheros QC NFA34AC For Lenovo B50-80 New", to my Lenovo Z50-75, from aliexpress.com and paid 51 sek (about 5,13USD or 4,94EUR) inclusive all, delivered to my postbox in about 5 weeks.

Fantastic! Works just fine, without updating anything.
Little hard to change the card.Nothing if your not a little handy. Make sure that you connect the correct cord (black to Main and gray to AUX) to the appropriate pins on the card. In my case it was the opposite, with the original. Good luck
