I just purchased a P500 Lenovo machine. I noticed that the DVD drive includes a button that when pressed does not automatically open the tray. The button does appear to unlock the tray, and then I need to manually open it. Does anyone know if this is by design?
I just want to make drive is not broken. I'm use to machines where the DVD tray opens automatically when the button on the drive is pressed.
I tried the Eject command in Windows 8, but an error message is displayed.

Just like what cakemaser said, the DVD drive is a Ultrabay, 9.5mm, tray-in and it's a push-to-eject tray. If you need to use a paperclip to open the tray, there's probably a broken spring / plastic somewhere that's responsible to eject the DVD tray and you will need to contact lenovo for a replacement ODD. Support phone list here.
Hope this helps.
