Dead battery?

Through out this weekend my battery started to act up. It was charging, and then when it was done, the % continued to fall. I tried to reset the battery in the energy manager to see if it did anything. When I got home, the charger light was blinking orange, but I couldnt turn on the computer. After a while it worked. It said 0% charging, but nothing happend. I assume its broken? But, is there a warrenty on the battery when the computer isnt even 1 year old? And if the battery was starting to have problems would this effect my fan? Bcs my fan has been really loud, until I removed the battery.

Re: Dead battery?

Hi Kristine,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

1)  Shut down the computer.

2)  With the battery in (but AC adapter removed), attempt to turn on the computer by holding down the power button for 30 sec. This should not turn on the computer.

3)  Remove the battery.

4)  Again, attempt to turn on the computer (AC adapter not plugged in) by holding down the power button for 30 sec.  This should not turn on the computer either.

5)  Replace battery, plug in the AC adapter, and turn on the computer.  The battery should begin charging.

Yes, Any Lenovo laptops will be having minimum of one year warranty. Please click here validate the battery warranty.

Check the BIOS. There might be fan speed settings. I would also recommend installing a program to check the CPU temperature or you might be able to check the CPU temp in the BIOS. Double check that the fan is set to auto speed in the BIOS, or speed based on temperature. Also make sure the heatsink is on tight, that CPU might actually be overheating

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,

Shashi

Battery acting up again

Earlier today  I posted about my battery not charging, - Dead battery? post. Now it did charge, when I got home it was 100%, so I started to use it again, and now the battery is declining even though its plugged in? Do I need a new battery after all?

-And, from what I can see when I look at my warrenty here on my page, it seems like the battery warrenty went out last year, and started in 2014, I bought this 8 months ago, so I assume the warranty is still there? Or?

Re: Battery acting up again

****I have now spoken with Lenovo over the phone, and they think its some sort of error, so they have asked me to send in both laptop and charger. Thanks for all the help Smiley Happy

I have taken a look at these links.

Its a z50-70

Yesterday, when I got home, I started to use the computer, and used it a bit on fb. Then I startet to play a game (sims medevial) as I played this when the battery started to drain this weekend. ( This has not happened when I have played before)

The battery started to drain again, so I quit the game. Had to take the charger in and out for it to start charging. Through out the night, the battery drained. Tok the battery in and out. It charged up to 100% and I used the computer to watch serier, and use fb. When I woke up later, the battery was still at 100%. So I decided to try again to play, but a different game -sims 4. This also started to drain the battery. So I quit that one too. I do find it weird that its the games that causes the drainage, as this havent been the issue before.

Re: Battery acting up again

Hi Kristine,

Great that all goes well.

If your laptop has a dedicated video chip, that chip is only used when you play the game and will probably use considerably more power.

It is recommended that you unplug your charger when the battery is full as it will reduce the life cycle of the battery.

If you are only browsing the internet then both the CPU and graphics card will move to a low power state and be drawing much less. The graphics card will move to a low power mode and draw < 10W, probably similar for the CPU. The occasional burst when loading a page will not really affect the charging of the battery by much.

However, you can try this - Charge the battery to 100%, then shut off laptop, remove AC adapter, remove battery pack, Press power button and keep pressed for about 30 second, release and press again for 30 sec. Then insert battery and plug in AC adapter, start up laptop,

you can change battery to 50% charging (Best Health) again later on.

Please feel free to utilize our forums at any time.
