Dell S2340t Monitor with Ideapad 400z with Intel Graphics Card Issue is 1920 x 1080

I just purchased a z400 with the "upgraded" graphics of 1600 x 900. I just purchased (but can cancel delivery on) a Dell s2340t monitor ( for a lot of reasons). Now I am reading the manual for the monitor and it stresses using 1920 x 1080. The Dell manual urges you to upgrade your drivers if that display level is not a choice. Is there any way to get the z 400 to display 1920 x 1080?

Can you replace the intel adapter?

If I can get a definitive answer soon enough and that definitive answer is "No!", it may not be tool late to cancel my monitor.

1600 x 900 is the limit of the laptops screen, not the GPU. You can use almost any* resolution on the external screen provided it supports it.

I'm currently using two screen on my Y580. The internal is 1920 x 1080 and the external is 1366 x 768 (it's physically smaller too).

-----

*there is always upper limit though. I'm not sure what is it for Intel GPU, but I'd say it's at least 2560x1600.

Very helpful. I had to google GPU, so you can see this is not my natural playground. I am now excited again about my new monitor and will report back once it is up and running.

Dell S2340t Monitor with Ideapad 400z with Intel Graphics Card   Issue is 1920 x 1080  Not yet solved.

So, I received my new monitor which is lovely.  I am running Win 8.  The highest available resolution through the Control Panel is 1600 x 900 which I know is the highest  internal resolution for my laptop.  No option for anything else.

Is there a way to access the external monitor's resolutions through some settings?  The IdeaPad certainly knows it is there.

Re: Dell S2340t Monitor with Ideapad 400z with Intel Graphics Card Issue is 1920 x 1080

In resolution settings there should be 4 display modes available:

mirroring, extended desktop, display only on 1, display only on 2.

In mirroring the resolution on both screens has to be the same, thus it's using the resolution of the smaller screen. You should be able to set 1080p in 'extended desktop' and 'display only on 2' (assuming 2nd display is the external one). I assume you're using HDMI port right?

Yes!  So, that's the trick.  I am getting the higher resolution now (super wow!).

You would think Dell would include that little tidbit somewhere given that desktops are so often being replaced by laptops.   I went into  "Project to a second screen" and then selected second screen only.  Thank you so much.
