Re: Dual-band wifi card supported by Y580?

Huh, that is interesting. Maybe I'll pick up a 6300 and an extra antenna pigtail, then! Thanks.

Re: Dual-band wifi card supported by Y580?

Hi folks,

Am new here. I am getting the y580 for gaming purpose and i came across a few friends who have issues with their wifi card. (Jeez this is 2012 )

I am mostly going to use it as a desktop so portablity isn't my thing.

Can i use a wifi usb adapter to overcome this problem? If yes can you please suggest me a good one

Thanks

Re: Dual-band wifi card supported by Y580?

I would think that a USB wifi adapter would work just fine, though I have no experience with using them.

My Centrino 6205 card arrived today, installed, and it works like a champ!  :-)

Hi Solo! Did you have to unlock your bios to use the 6205 card also can you link me where you bought it? Thanks! Smiley Happy

I haven't found a card yet that works without unlocking the bios.

I bought it on eBay from ny-compu-tek ... just search for Centrino 6205.

Re: Dual-band wifi card supported by Y580?

I see. I'm actually looking for a Intel 2200 wifi card (the one that's really from Lenovo). I'm a bit hesitant on unlocking my bios. But is it safe if I don't touch anything other than that? Hehe. Thanks!

There is no guarantee.

I don't think there is any wifi card you can buy and use with the Y580 that doesn't require a bios unlock. You probably want to look into the USB/wifi approach you mentioned.

Re: Dual-band wifi card supported by Y580?

Hey there,

which Bios is needed for the

Intel Centrina 6205 ?  an what will i need to change the original Wifi Card with te Centrino 6205 ?

Can someone help me ?

Reason why : Intel Widi won´t work well over DNLA (streaming via NAS over Y580 to Intel Widi)

Widi off = Network Speed around 8MB/S

Widi on = Network Speed around 1MB/<-- No video works without lagging..

Re: Dual-band wifi card supported by Y580?

I wonder if the Killer Wireless-N 1103 would work well in this laptop.

Also does taping over pin-20 on the wireless cards work? I've seen that as an answer to this problem before.

Re: Dual-band wifi card supported by Y580?

I read something about installing an blacklist card and disable the wifi card in the bios, to get around the bios detection then  boot into windows and see if you can enable the card in windows, it`s a pity we dont have a wifi switch.
