Re: Game keyboard problem

you can't play games on safe mode.

that suggestion was to check your keyboard.

as you report, you have no issue on safe mode, i can say, your keyboards are not effected.

can you check language bar if there's any other language except default one?

if yes, remove the language and try again.

by the way, do not forget to scan your computer for viruses.

Re: Game keyboard problem

Yigit,

Thank you for the response. Uninstalling the touchpad driver doesn't seem to solve the problem either, unfortunately.

Re: Game keyboard problem

I've tried removing keyboards and touchpad via safe mode as indicated above and this does not fix the issue.

I upgraded BIOS from 56 to 59 (latest version for Y560 on the website) and this does not fix the problem.

I've confirmed that when in a game (WoW and Java games) that each keypress increases the number it registers (Press W and you get a 5, then press it again and you get a 6, press it again you get a 7, Press any other key you get an 8, etc)

NumLock is not on.  There are no other keyboards on the laptop.

This to me is a low level issue (like at BIOS level).  I have multiple computers in my house with the same version of Windows 7 and with Windows XP all able to run the exact same install of WoW and other games with no issues.

Re: Game keyboard problem

yigit has a good point: @mfrazzz, had you deleted and reinstall the keyboard language?

Not the hardware, just the language (keyboard layout).

Re: Game keyboard problem

Not sure I'm following.  How do I delete the keyboard language?

As an update, I thought I'd install VirtualBox and install WindowsXP to try to play games in a virtual machine as a workaround.  Well, that won't work as I found the number issue shows up in the VM and I can't type any letters.

Re: Game keyboard problem

My keyboard is back to normal sporadically but if I restart it goes back to numbers and it stays like that for a while until is not, I have antivirus/antispyware software and it is not detecting anything.  I think it has to do with the bios uprade as I never had this problem before the bios upgrade.  Is it safe for me to put back the old bios?

Re: Game keyboard problem

Yes, it's safe to go back to the BIOS .58 or whatever you want.

Here are the old versions of the BIOS:

But, had you tried to remove and do again the keyboard layout setting? Also, do you have only one keyboard layout?

Re: Game keyboard problem

I only had one keyboard language (English - US).  I added English - UK then rebooted.  No change.  Then added English - US, and rebooted.  Still no change.

I once again tried removing the trackpad and reinstalling.  Still no change.

I was on BIOS 56 and was having this issue and am now on 59 and still have the problem.  Pretty much this laptop is worthless for one of the main reasons I chose it.
