Hi, I just got the Y580 20998PU running Win8 (64 bit) and I need some help
for some strange reason it has drivers for the onboard graphics card (Intel HD 4000) as well as the dedicated NVidia GTX660M and windows seems to prefer the HD 4000 for some strange reason
I tried disabling the HD 4000 in "Devices" but then windows reverted to "Generic Video Driver" or something which is worse
so my question is this:
A) if I leave it at the "factory default" with windows trying to use the HD 4000, would games use the GTX660M?
B) if they won't (I doubt they would....) then how do get windows to use the 660M? shouldn't disabling the device have fixed it?
any help would be appreciated....thanks

The model Y580 that you have has the Integrated Intel Graphics card and dedicated NVidia GTX660M. The system will auto switch between the graphic cards. Once the system detects that you are using a program that will require more resources, then the system will switch to using the GTX660M.
You may want to check if you have the latest drivers installed for the intel graphics and dedicated NVidia GTX660M.
Please install the Intel drivers first, and then the Nvidia graphics card. No need to reinstall if you have the same version.
See similar thread regarding switchable graphics.
Hope this answers your question.
