HW reset for Lenovo Y40-80

2017-03-13, 16:02 PM

I disabled the Intel graphic card from BIOS and after rebooting the display doesn't show anything, no lights or text. The only way that I could think about to fix that is a hardware reset. I removed the back cover, the main battery, memory modules, and the BIOS battery, but this didn't reset the BIOS. I found a link that mentioned I could reset by shorting pin 5 and 6 together of the bios (which I guess it is the 25Q064A chip) while booting. Could anyone confirm that? Or let me know what the fastest way to do that. I have an exam soon and I need to fix the laptop quickly.

Thanks

Hi abulila ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The hardware manual would not include chip pin information on such reset procedure that may / may not apply on your model (or pulling out the CMOS battery) but I was thinking of blind BIOS access.

Turning off the machine and pressing the Novo button to power on would give the Novo menu.

Press down-arrow once and it would offer BIOS access then press enter.

F9 would load the defaults of BIOS and F10 will save and exit.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Many thanks for your message. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

I pressed NOVO button, waited for about 10 to 30 sec, then I tried both of the following sequences:

1- Pressed down arrow once.

2- Hit Enter.

3- Waited for 5 sec

4- F9

5- Enter

6- F12

7- Enter

The second sequence is the same except I pressed Fn+ button with F9 and F12.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hi abulila ,

Greetings.

After F9 to load defaults F10 to save and exit.

Alternately you may also try FN + F2 on start up to go to BIOS , F9 then F10.

Any chance for a display using an external monitor?

Regards
