How do I get the most battery life out of my Y580?

I'm getting low battery life from just the Power Saver Mode (about 2 hours).

The Y580 was advertised to last as long as 5 hours.

What configurations are people using to get this long of battery life?

Anybody?

Do I have to fiddle with Nvidia Control Panel? Lenovo Energy Management?

How do I get the 5 hours on battery?

Re: How do I get the most battery life out of my Y580?

I too am having this issue! On Windows 8 whether using Power Saver or Lenovo Dynamic Graphics, I never get more than 2.5 hours of battery life!

the specs on the Y580 page clearly state 5 hours life on a 6 cell battery which is what I have.

So how do I acheive this?

What are you doing on battery? If you are gaming, you can forget it. Everything from dimming the screen, reducing the sound, or forced underclocking will improve battery life. Don't really expect 5 hours on battery unless you are web browsing and have everything optimized for saving power. Pretty much they rate the laptops bettery run time based on being pretty much idle the whole time.

Re: How do I get the most battery life out of my Y580?

I wouldn't expect to get 5 hours if I was gaming, but no I am indeed just browsing web, typing documents. Even on absolute minimum power saver (and even FORCING the cpu to throttle between 5 and 20%) I cannot get more than 2.5 hours life!

that's bull and something is definitely wrong, but I have no idea how to find out what the problem is. Every Y580 review I've found says they have acheived 5 hours on power saver, and up to 8 hours if they turned off wifi and dimmed the screen.

I'm not getting any where CLOSE to that even on my minimum power settings. anyone have any ideas?

Re: How do I get the most battery life out of my Y580?

If you are doing all of that, are you absolutely sure there is no problem with the battery itself? Overcharging, using it while plugged and draining it madly all decrease battery life. How long have you had the Y580 for?

Re: How do I get the most battery life out of my Y580?

since november, but I started experiencing this issue immediately, but if I recall correctly after installing windows 8.

I think it's likely due to a bad driver, but I am using all the official drivers from lenovo, not even nvidia or windows update, only the ones lenovo provides.

According to BatteryBary my battery has no wear on it, so it should be working perfectly
