How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

Story: my company got two Z580 for me and my collegaue. His was Windows 7 edition (Win7 sticker at the bottom), mine Windows 8 edition (Win8 sticker at the bottom).

Since we use Windows 7, I had to reinstall the system (to Windows 7). Everything went fine to the point when I had to install Nvidia drivers. The installer states that I don't have compatible hardware.
This is odd becuase I have also Nvidia "Geforce with CUDA" sticker, and even BIOS knows I have dual card (Optimus).

Windows by itself detected Intel chip and unknown VGA one.

I tried Lenovo drivers (for Nvidia) and also the ones grabbed directly from Nvidia site.

Any help/hints are greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Re: How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Try updating the chipset driver, Intel graphic driver and then the Nvidia driver. Nvidia will not get installed without the Intel graphic driver. Also make sure that switchable graphics is enabled in BIOS. Here is the link with all compatible drivers.

Please let me know, If the issue is not resolved. Also let me know is it 32-bit OS or 64-bit?

Re: How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

Thank you very much. This is 64-bit system.

I installed chipset driver, video driver for Intel card, and then Nvidia driver. The last step failed -- it claims I don't have hardware for it.

I tried also removing "recognized" generic VGA card + unknown device from the device manager, rebooting, and installing Nvidia driver then. But Windows is so quick, that it adds VGA card + unknown device again before I can do anything with Nvidia driver installer.

So far I am stuck.

Re: How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

Thank you for the details.

What was the status in BIOS? Was the switchable graphics enabled? If it is not enabled, enable it, save the settings in BIOS and exit.

Then try to install drivers. If it still does not work. Try this

In the device manager, right click on the generic VGA adapter select update driver -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Click browse and navigate to the NVidia Driver ( By default the path for driver will be C:\Drivers\...) -> Make sure Include subfolders is checked, click next and check if it successfully update the drivers.

Yes that is why I know for sure it is hybrid graphics.

> In the device manager, right click on the generic VGA adapter select update drive

There are two devices to do it. VGA adapter -- in such case, after trying manually update driver with NVidia ones, Windows stated the VGA drivers were already up to date.

In case of the "uknown device" it stated, it cannot find drivers for this device.

Btw. thank you a lot of your help (and sorry, I didn't answer sooner, but I was sick; and still am).

Thank you for your reply.

Can you please provide a snapshot of the device manager with display adapters expanded?

That will help us more.

Re: How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

There are Polish labels but I will translate the crucial points.

Below you can see 2 problematic devices - first one is "unknown device" and the second "standard VGA graphics card".

device_manager.PNG

For VGA card there is an error 10 -- "cannot run this device" and identifiers for this device look like this:

vga_identifiers.PNG

For "unknown device" -- there is error 28 "there no drivers installed", and the identifiers look like this:

unknown_identifiers.PNG

I hope those are the snapshots you were asking about.

Re: How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

Windows 8 drivers won't work with Windows 7 -- they check the windows version. I already tried.

However the problem "solved" by itself, I lost access to this computer, and now I am working on another one.

Re: How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

Hi,

I have simillar problem. Also when bios is set to 'optimus' performance in Windows is very bad. When I set to 'UMA only', Widnows works great. Could it be a broken nvidia chipset?

Win 7 64bit.

Btw. When I try install nvidia drivers (after chipset and intel hd) from CD I got: 'DRIVER COULD NOT FIND COMPATIBLE GRAPHICS HARDWARE' msg...
