Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

There is no master password, back door or CMOS clearing procedure that will remove your forgotten password.  This is due to the ease in which laptops are stolen.   To resolve the issue you have basically two options.  The first is for the Uncle to try and remember the password he used.  Please keep in mind that passwords are case sensitive and he may have use upper and lower case characters.  The second option is to replace the motherboard.

Re: How to reset BIOS Lenovo Z400 Ideapad Touch

Thanks for the help, but replacing the board costs dearly where I live. Lenovo here in Brazil costs about $ 180, which I consider a bit abusive! Of any form I believed that Lenovo could make a new version of the BIOS firmware, that is my hope. Anyway I'll keep trying to find another way. Thanks.

An update won't remove the password. It may even be blocked until its removed.

All you can do is guess at what might have been used talking to him.

Why didn't you get the password in the begining and make a note of it?

Re: How to reset BIOS Lenovo Z400 Ideapad Touch

At first I was not going to format, but in time he started to slow and his recovery was corrupted, which is something else he did, he does not even remember that he had put the password, he is that kind of person who moves and finishes breaking everything. What I did, which was also a mistake on my part, was removing the HD and formatting out of the Notebook, which resulted in the BIOS no longer accepting the HD as it was not compatible with the original UEFI. And now I'm wondering what is the easiest way to solve this problem. Smiley Sad

Re: How to reset BIOS Lenovo Z400 Ideapad Touch

There is never an advantage formating outside of the notebook. Different OS partition types and other issues can occur. Maybe the HD had password protection which seems more likely. Without even a HD you should be able to get to the BIOS panel which would prompt for Adminstrator or some such password.

A clue on the screen may exist but in 30 years working with computers I never recommend anyone to set a hardware bios password. Some corporated systems by Toshiba and IBM had technical specialist work around to reset via a non disclosed procedure only they can do. Whether anyone does that still. is unknown but it would have to go into a service center in either case.

Ok, thanks for the help, I really think the best option is to change the motherboard, or send it to Lenovo technical support. Anyway, I appreciate your help! up until....
