Idea Pad Y460P WiFi

So I typed a nice post and clicked post and it comes up with no text. Great. This time I'll type a shorter post.

I bought a Y460P. I tried to upgrade the Intel 1000 wifi with an Intel 6200 card. I got the BIOS error that it's not a supported card. I found that you need to get particular cards because of a BIOS whitelist. I found a nice chart someone had posted on here for Y560P. What I'd like is either a place to buy compatible parts on lenovo's site, and/or a place that I can look up such information for my Y460P. It is very nice that someone can post a chart in the thread for me, but I'd like to be able to find the information on the support site myself, like in a service manual or something.

Thank you,

Dale

Re: Idea Pad Y460P WiFi

Thanks yigit. I already sold my old laptop with the 6200 in it, figuring it wouldn't work, but I went ahead and ordered myself a 6300 anyways, figuring I'd find a way to use it by either modding the whitelist in the bios, modding the pc id of the card, or using it in the wwan card slot.

modifying bios will void your warranty.

Re: Idea Pad Y460P WiFi

Thanks, I'll be sure and not modify the bios while it's under warranty. In the meantime, is there a way to order a better compatible wifi card from lenovo or elsewhere, as this 1000 is pretty weak ...

Re: Idea Pad Y460P WiFi

this is not possible as it is as per designed. therefore if customers wants to use a different wlan card on their laptop, it is at their own risk to flash their bios with a home-brew version instead of the official one.

ps: marking the thread as solved.
