Ideapad Y510P having problems

I just purchased this laptop about a month ago to help me with school. For the first week or two it worked fine and everything was going really well. Then about a week or two ago it started acting up. It is freezing programs(firefox, IE, Chrome, explorer, Flash CC, blender, and a few other programs I needed to install for school. It sometimes freezes on startup and I have to hold the power button down to restart it. Sometimes when it restarts it takes 10-15 mins to fully boot up and load up to the login screen. Does anyone know whats going on with it? I heard a lot of good things about lenovo computers but with this being my first experience I'm not too impressed.

Re: Ideapad Y510P having problems

Dear Iahaz

Welcome in Lenovo community

I seems that you have a mix of problem , many application are installed and corrupted , booting issue and it might be a virus attack , we do recommend to refresh the windows by restoring the machine to the factory setting to get a new clear operating system .

Please let me know to advise you with the steps you should follow to perform the recovery

Re: Ideapad Y510P having problems

Dang. That's what I was assuming I would have to do I just didn't know if there was another way to fix it. It's the last week of this term and I'm still needing some of the programs(which I can install again I just don't know if I have the time with work and school to do that before the term ends) I think I know how but I would like to do it properly so could you advise me in doing that? Thankyou for you assistance!

Re: Ideapad Y510P having problems

A reload (when you can) may help.   It is possible you have a virus, or some application / driver that is not responding.

You could try to open the task manager and look at what processes are using a lot of CPU cycles?  Anything stand out?

You could also try starting up in safe mode to reduce what is being loaded - this might help.

Re: Ideapad Y510P having problems

Thanks for the help. I was finally able to do the fresh reload to factory settings and the computer seemed to work fine. After a day though it takes forever to restart/shutdown and I have to use the power button to shutdown. I've left it sitting on the screen(either the restart or shutdown) for over 30mins and it still is just stuck there. Starting up it seems to have no issues. The only thing I've done since the reload was download and install the updates that it prompts that I need.
